Monument Dugua de Mons — Attraction in Quebec

Dugua de Mons, who unfailingly supported Québec’s founding without ever setting foot here, would have been surprised to learn that the three main geological formations in the province intersect in this very spot, right before your eyes. The Appalachians, Laurentians, and St. Lawrence Lowlands make up this stunning landscape, fashioned by millions of years of titanic reshaping.

The monument of Dugua de Mons is located right in this park. All of Québec City’s Upper Town is part of the Appalachians. Pierre Dugua de Mons was born in Royan around 1560. He belonged to a wealthy family of the reformed faith who lived in Saintonge.

The view here encompasses many of Quebec's famous sites: On the left, there is the eminent Chateau Frontenac, a luxury hotel built to attract visitors from around the world; in the center, there is the historic Quebec old town, a UNESCO world heritage site; and on the right is the St Lawrence river, dominating the landscape and dotted with the occasional cruise ship to bring people from far-flung lands...
