In full transparency, I'd like to start with explaining we've come to this place before & loved it & gave them 5 stars. This time we returned & had a very unfortunate incident with the server that has left us severely unsatisfied & incredibly annoyed: There were 3 of us -2 of us ordered what we wanted, then when the 3rd person ordered the VEAL our server said they were out of the veal. He had to scramble to find something else and ended up ordering a steak (her recommendation). Less than 20 minutes after we started eating, we overheard the next table order the veal & the order was successfully accepted! 🤨🤔 We called our server over to ask why the next table was able to order the veal & she told us she thought the veal was sold out but that 5 minutes after she told us it was sold out, she was informed it was available. However she never came to tell us that. She did not appear to think this was a big deal when she explained, only giving a light, flippant "sorry" when we looked displeased with her response. It's one thing if the veal was made available after we received our food & ate it, but by her own admission it was only FIVE MINUTES & she could've told us so he can switch his order. Now, we will admit - we generally did love our experience LAST TIME we were here. And to give a very honest review of the food this time, I loved my food, the 2nd person liked his food, & the 3rd person did not like his food. But the server's choice to not inform us as soon as she found out really left a sour taste in the experience. When the bill came, we did not wish to tip much. When she saw her tip was low, she asked if there was a problem. So I informed her if she found out only 5 minutes later, she could've come back to tell us. She said "I...

Read moreRacism Alert: 🚨 I had a deeply disappointing experience at Cochon Dingue Champlain during my recent visit. While I was looking forward to enjoying a meal in what appeared to be a charming setting, the behaviour of one particular waitress completely overshadowed the experience. 🤮
From the beginning, her attitude was cold and dismissive toward me and my party. As we placed our order, our wait time was over 45mins. Whereas, guests seated after us received their meals with a wide smile. It became increasingly difficult to ignore what felt like racially motivated behaviour. Also, our inability to speak French felt like a factor of discrimination. Food was good and none of us had complaints. At the end of our meal, we didn’t tip as TIPS ARE FOR GOOD SERVICE AND VOLUNTARY. When she saw that we didn’t leave a tip, she embarrassed us in front of other guests by saying that we should know that tipping 15% is a norm here and we should know these things before coming here. We ended up paying a 15% tax after she forced us to pay by shaming us!!
As a guest, nobody should feel like an outsider in a restaurant, especially in a city known for its hospitality. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and provides better training on respectful, equitable service. Discrimination, even at a subtle level, has no place in any public establishment. I will not be returning, and I encourage others to be aware of how people of colour seem to be...
