Ling Yen Mountain Temple in Richmond is an excellent Buddhist temple and a peaceful retreat for spiritual seekers. It’s an ideal place for anyone interested in learning about Buddhism and participating in related activities. The temple offers a serene environment where visitors can immerse themselves in meditation and Buddhist teachings. A special highlight is the free vegan meal served on Sundays at 11 AM, which is both delicious and nourishing. The temple is currently undergoing expansion, promising even more space for learning and contemplation. The monks and staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, making the experience even more enriching. Whether you’re attending a service, joining an event, or simply seeking a quiet moment, Ling Yen Mountain Temple is a wonderful sanctuary in Richmond. Highly recommended for those seeking peace, spiritual growth, or simply a greater understanding of Buddhism.

A serene and grand Buddhist temple of the Ling Yen Forest sect of Pure Land Buddhism. The monks and volunteers here were very nice and helpful, and the temple has a highly resourceful information center. Their library has a huge amount of books on the Ling Yen temples and Buddhism, which you can take and read, however, the dharma texts and larger books have to be signed out. Behind the temple, they have a peaceful garden. In the Guanyin Pagoda, you can also get free blessed water, but take only one and leave the rest for others. The main halls are very beautiful, and are good for prayers. The temple also provides many services and recitation practices.

Na Mo Buddha. This place is so serene and peaceful as soon as you enter the premises. The Grand Buddha Hall is out of the world. Gives you the peace that came in for. Their library and information hall is very well organized. There are a lot of materials in both English and Chinese. The staff are very helpful. They had lavender tea on the day we went. It was very nice and warm. Aug 2024 - they are constructing the next phase. So parking is limited here. There is a lot C about 250 mts from the temple or you can try and find street parking for now.

A very welcoming temple that allows people from all creeds to come and learn about the religion. It’s smaller in size than the temple on Steveston Hwy, but this is the place to go if you are actually interested in participating in some chanting and meditation.

This temple is actually a “branch” of a similarly named Ling Yen Mountain Temple in Taiwan, and they don’t make any attempts to hide this. Despite the more corporate image (their fundraising efforts would put Project Advance and the Archdiocese of Vancouver to shame), the temple does feel a lot more homey and down to earth. The place is practically buzzing with generous volunteers who are incredibly nice and happy to talk about their faith. And unlike the temple on Steveston, they hold a lot of events throughout the year which is nice. If you’re lucky, they’ll be selling some homemade delicacies on temple grounds like pickles that are fantastic with rice, or vegetarian jajangmian sauce.

The free vegetarian lunch is offered to all meditation goers after they’ve done a chanting session at the Great Hall. It used to have no strings attached but the lines started becoming incredibly long and people would come here just to partake, empty plastic...

Great temple. Been going there for they opened the temple. Back then there wasn’t many nuns or volunteers that spoke English, so I was the tour guide for any English speakers at the tender age of 11. Extremely peaceful (when it’s not a major Buddhist holiday) Living there during Buddhist retreats was also so peaceful. Waking up in the mornings at the wee hours to pray, suns not even up yet, everything so quite, was just so great. By the way, the food on Sundays = amazing! They put in extra effort on the weekends during lunch to make it extra tasty to encourage new comers to try vegetarianism. Totally works. All in all, great place to visit. Beautiful grounds, friendly nuns. Just don’t slide down the stair banisters like I did. Especially when all the nuns are coming up the stairs… huge trouble. haha (to be fair I was 11)

Best time to go check out the temple: Between 9:30-3:00pm Weekends. More lively and more people to...
