Kisha Poppo Japanese Sushi Restaurant — Restaurant in Richmond

I hate that I actually have to write a negative review about this place. Especially since I have been eating here for 10+ years and have never had an issue but... On Thursday this week we made our regular take-out order. I was told the usual 'it will be 15-20min'... but ended up waiting 35+ minutes, which not only have I never had to do, but it wasn't even justifiable as the restaurant was fairly empty. However, it was when we got home that we were really let down. Instead of our 3 California rolls, we were given 3 salmon rolls (in addition to the 1 we ACTUALLY ordered). There is a price difference between the two which obviously was NOT reflected on my receipt. Disappointing for sure, but not a deal breaker. We took it as a loss and continued to eat... until I noticed, my Dynamite rolls didn't have any Kani (the fake crab) in them. That's when I realized: they obviously ran out of kani... not only not putting it in the dynamite rolls, but substituting our California rolls for salmon rolls as well. I am HUGELY disappointed that their business practice was to not say anything to us and to just dupe us into paying for rolls we didn't received and having an excess amount of rolls we didn't want... Had they let us know, we would have changed our order to reflect food we actually wanted. I am a frequent customer of this place and we spend quite a bit of money here, and am always raving about this place, but I don't think I can do that anymore. I deserve better service than this. The only solution for us here is to spend 10 minutes opening every package every time I get a take-out order from now on or switching restaurants to one who wont 'dupe' us on our orders.

Finally! Some good quality seafood that is also filling in Vancouver. For less than $25 per person we went to Kisha Poppo for their all you can eat lunch special. We were skeptic all since there were so many negative comments but we thoroughly liked the restaurant and here is why! 👏

Each person gets 4 pieces of FREE tuna/salmon sashimi and they were not regular sized but larger than normal! We were thrilled to have such fresh fish included for lunch!

A lot of reviews says their rice is too big for sushi but I don’t think that’s a bad thing! Yes their rice size is larger BUT the fish slice on top are also bigger than normal! The fish slice on top is large enough to wrap the front and back of the rice of the sushi I so wish I took more photos before I dug in!

There are underrated items in their lunch special! I think they did a great job on the chicken karaage and teriyaki. I wish I could have eaten more of these! It was crunchy and juicy, it was so so good.

They give you two ordering rounds and I think that this is a great system to save time and avoid food waste! In the first round I would try menu items that interest you in the first round in smaller portions (like one or two per item) and then write down what you absolutely love in the second round of ordering in larger portions later!

It might be time for me to find a new Japanese restaurant to frequent. I really enjoy the food here so if you are ordering take out or delivery I would still recommend Kisha Poppo but I DO NOT recommend dine-in. The servers always seem in a hurry to leave your table, even when it is clearly not busy. The other day I went there with a friend and my friend ordered first and the server began to walk away before asking for my order. I had to call the server back and she again started to walk away after I had asked for my beverage but had not yet given my food order. The time before that a friend and I went for the all-you-can-eat lunch special but it was clearly not all-you-can-eat. We put in an initial order to start with, starting out light and intending to order more after sampling a few dishes, however, we never got the chance to order more food. After dropping off the first and ultimately final round of food, the server never returned to our table. We sat for an extended amount of time waiting for any server to come to us but none did. We tried several times to flag our server down and she even walked past our table, made eye contact, then walked away with a smirk, quickly bypassing us. We decided to end lunch there. Keep in mind that the all-you-can-eat lunch special is $22/person and we did not even get the chance to order enough food to make that seem like a value. TL;DR: good food, terrible service....
