Mystic Vale Trail, nestled within the stunning landscapes of Victoria, BC, offers a serene escape into nature, perfect for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. This enchanting trail near the University of Victoria boasts lush greenery, towering trees, and a beautiful stream meandering through the valley. The area's natural beauty is a feast for the senses, with vibrant ferns and moss-covered logs creating a fairy-tale atmosphere. As you stroll along the winding paths, birds chirping and leaves rustling provide a calming backdrop. Wildlife is abundant here; deer, squirrels, and various bird species frequently visit, making it a fantastic spot for nature photography, especially during early morning or late afternoon hours. However, it’s essential to be vigilant, as there have been occasional cougar sightings in the area, particularly during the quieter hours. While such encounters are rare, staying alert and following safety guidelines is wise.

Parking is available at the University of Victoria, with designated lots close to the trailhead. It’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot, particularly on weekends. The trail is well-marked and accessible, catering to hikers of all skill levels, and it remains open year-round, allowing visitors to enjoy its beauty in every season. While there are no specific hours of operation, it’s best to hike during daylight for safety and to fully appreciate the awe-inspiring surroundings.

For a comfortable hiking experience, wear sturdy footwear with good traction, as some areas can be muddy. Dressing in layers is wise to accommodate changing weather conditions, and bringing a light rain jacket is recommended, especially during the wetter months. A refillable water bottle will help keep you hydrated. Overall, Mystic Vale is a picturesque trail that beautifully showcases the natural charm of Victoria, making it a delightful destination for anyone seeking a stroll or an invigorating hike. Don’t forget your camera to capture the wonders this hidden gem...

Robin Hood meets the neighbor...hood. This gorgeous ravine trek under the canopy of west coast Douglas Firs, Arbutus and gently wafting Maple leafery is nestled on a rolling parcel of UVic land/Saanich-protected from development in perpetuity. Mostly shaded with patchwork sunshine, it is a cool getaway on a hot summer day and a refreshing jaunt under showers on rainy days. The fern fringed, meandering, compressed dirt and mulch trail does dip and roll along Hobbs Creek, and there are stairs-this is a sloping gully-but there are stretches completely accessible to the adventuring person with moderate physical challenges. Even a wheel chair could venture through sections with some assistance. To sit and read or picnic for a time does not require excesses in mobility. This jaunt is a must do. Romance, intrigue, yoga, poetry, painting, photography, discreet snogging, dog rompus, meditation, cross country run, tree bathing, tai chi, ...you name it-Mystic Vale is a Victoria destination worth pursuing. Wear trekking shoes...or bare feet. Take more than an hour or crash through...

We went in with bikes-a sign says no mountain biking but we took that to mean we should stay on the trails. It was ok but when you reach the stairs you have a problem. You can go back or try to push your bike up beside stairs. DO NOT GO UP THE WRONG STAIRS! We pushed up there and found a locked gate. Go towards the parking lot on the stairs that switch back. This place show as a bike trail on google but it isn’t really. Very...

Magical forest straight out of a fairy tale, lots of tall trees, ferns and a little stream. Probably takes about 20 minutes to complete, so decent walk. Fairly quiet with only a few people per walk. Love coming here with my dog so we can both let go and enjoy nature!

Very pretty hiking trail, thags not too long with lots of side trails. This trail does get a bit busy on sunny weekends. There is also a creek and a few cute wood bridges along it, so perfect for people starting to get onto small hikes or looking for short trails.

Very interesting place for a hike, some nice well maintained paths with many areas to go off path. Very tall trees and small shrubs along the way. Some elevation in the areas, but generally pretty flat - some large roots to be aware of.
