We are definitely mid-life walkers, but I wouldn't say that we are dedicated hikers. We like a brisk stroll, enough hills and slopes to give your legs a little workout with a nice amount of downtime to enjoy nature and the fresh air. This is why we love to do the Christmas Hill Hike. We do this walk about 6 times a week for exercise and it never gets boring. It's not a heavy duty workout but we like to wrap around the top mountain a couple of times to get a little burn in the legs.

It is a great place to walk alone, as couples and even as a family for all ages. It is not wheelchair accessible as there are stairs and the paths are very narrow at some points, so persons with mobility issues should take note. I ultimately found that the best access was to go to the "Municipal/Police Buildings" in Saanich... and then ask someone. The access to the trial was though natural vegetation... but once near "SWAN LAKE" the trail is excellent, and the views are "most memorable"... One might be amazed thinking that this lake trail is surrounded by a very built up area! The vegetation varies-- but do not be surprised to see Mallard ducks sitting on a bridge or walkway across the lake. On a sunny day the colours and vegetation are "simply outstanding"!! It is definitely "a hidden gem"... and worthy of a visit!
