We always visit this area on a sunny weekend day as there are not too many people when compared to beaches in Vancouver. Today the dog was at the dog beach area the tide was very low so no problems with mud or pollution, lots of free balls in a box on the beach just don't take them away, and played with other dogs for more than an hour. She was totally pooped and in the car on the way home she just snoozed all the way home. The beach area is not well kept, above high tide, but it's a fenced on area insomuch but some small amounts of garbage was on the ground. Yes I did like this place and you may if you have a dog that likes to play with other dogs in the water and on the beach. Today, August 17, the beach was very dirty and awfully muddy. Then I realised this is the worst time to go as the tide was going out and leaving the mess and mud. Anyway the social side for the dogs was great and they didn't care about the mud and garbage. But I will check the tide charts before our next visit. I figure the reason for the dirty shoreline was the dog park is in a small cove and does not wash out like a regular beach. Due to that fact I have downgraded my approval. One lady there recommended East Beach in Whiterock. Will try there next time. Will not come here at high tide only low...
Read moreBlackie Spit is a treasure to many! While some come for a walk along the varied landscape and others bring their pets; there are those who come to make new memories while those like myself, come to reflect. It has been over 7 years since I was in the area. I helped plant snowberry bushes. At the time it was a group of us gathered and came to the area to replant. I came for this and also to honour my late daughters memory. We had spent many times during various seasons walking the beachfront. When I planted my snowberry bushes, I also paid tribute to my daughters passion for rockhounding and planted in the dirt, selected pebbles from her cherished collection. Having relocated to the area, I went today to try and find the shrubs. I was fortunate to speak to a gentleman working in the area. He was kind and provided information that I genuinely appreciated. The sunsets here are brilliant! Great place to bring a lunch, just be mindful of your litter, so others can enjoy the grande outdoors that often can be taken for granted. There are memorial benches all throughout, well groomed paths and a place for dogs, separate from...
