A disappointing experience due to poor quality and WAY over priced food and a disrespectful hostess/server. l usually only write positive reviews, but after a few months of recalling our experience to friends and family I've decided to share. We arrived for dinner on New Years Eve very excited to try this cozy looking local restaurant. I was pregnant and due, which made the night even more special. My husband ordered the halibut and it was so over cooked he couldn't finish it. Given the price tag we did mention it reluctantly (we felt awkward saying anything), but were dismissed immediately and completely, and were told that it was the way the fish was supposed to be cooked. As fishers and foodies we knew better, but honestly anybody eating the fish would have known something wasn't right with it. My pasta was tasteless and might as well have come out of a can. I asked it it was possible to get a side of alfredo and was told "no" by our female hostess/server. She said the sauce was created from scratch for every dish. Given that info I of course didn't mind, except that her response was rushed and rude in tone/condescending. I was made to feel as though I shouldn't have spoken. A few minutes later we saw her rush out of the restaurant dressed up for what must have been a New Years party. Our new young male waiter was lovely (hence the one star) and he asked if he could bring us anything. I took a leap and inquired about any sauce or balsamic to add some flavour to my dish and to my suprise he brought me a huge dish of alfredo. Clearly the woman had lied to us as he mentioned they had lots in the back. My husband and I have had the pleasure of tasting food prepared by many BC chefs and this tasted like cafeteria food. We felt robbed and disrespected. The food wasn't worth 1/4 of what we paid for it, and the experience has left us shaking our heads even months later. Save your money for somewhere worth dining. We highly recommend the seahorse grill down the street, or any decently starred restaurant downtown. Or just go to white spot, it will be better food...
Read moreWe have eaten here 3 times. My wife has allergies including being allergic to anything dairy and is vegan so the super salad without feta is perfect for her. The first two times were great. The third time we went we asked for the super salad with no dairy, except we forgot to mention it was an allergy. So my wife starts eating the salad which appeared to have no feta. A few minutes later I noticed many giant hunks of feta underneath the leafs of lettuce. The waitress came over the second I noticed, and when she asked how we were enjoying things, I said her salad is loaded with feta, to which my wife was startled as she had already eaten several mouthfuls of lettuce and red peppers that had been tossed in feta cheese. When we mentioned this she asked if it was an allergy she said "oh you have to tell us when it's an allergy!" They brought her another salad, And of course my meal is nearly done so I get to sit awkwardly waiting for my wife to finish her food. When the bill came, I was pretty taken aback that they had charged us for her salad. I don't care if we didn't mention that it was an allergy or not, if I asked for my food to not have something on it, you better not screw it up. Fast forward to today; suffice it to say my wife has been in a great deal of discomfort and pain since Saturday night. I still can't believe they charged us for her salad and made us feel like we were the ones who made a mistake. It literally left a bad taste...
Read moreThe restaurant appears to be quite nice, they're online presence certainly indicates that way. In person the restaurant actually is quite cozy, not a big place, but cozy nonetheless. I ordered the fish and chips, this came with two small pieces of fish compared to other fish and chip restaurants that I have dined at and subsequently reviewed. The chips were good with the exception of I had a lot of little crunchy pieces of chips. Something that you wouldn't really expect to receive at a restaurant such as this. My partner ordered a seafood dish, which she thoroughly enjoyed. We chose not to order the steak, due to the fact the customers seated at the table next to us what complaining about the texture and how it was cooked.
When those folks left, and new people were seated they were given two menus one a menu that we were given which contained all of the items that were available, in addition to this they were also given a smaller menu, with some interesting choices, including desert. The price was a little less than what my bill came to. Had we chose to have dessert are bill would have been about 25.00 more. this made the alternative menu they were given more attractive. Unfortunately this menu was not given to us. The restaurant if you haven't dined here before is worth checking out, despite the several issues we had...
