Location & Ambience Hooked Fish Bar enjoys a stellar spot directly on Crescent Beach, offering panoramic views over the water and nearby Gulf Islands. Its wraparound deck and beachfront patio make it ideal for people-watching, bird spotting, and just soaking in the coastal vibe . The casual, surf‑vibes décor—with metal tables and ocean-tone accents—fits the laid-back beach aesthetic perfectly . History & Local Favorite Since opening in the summer of 2011, Hooked Fish Bar has become a beloved fixture for both locals and visitors at Crescent Beach . With over 1,100 reviews and a “very good” average rating, many consider it their go-to spot by the sea . Food Highlights • Fish & Chips: Often praised as “fantastic” and “not heavy and greasy,” the fish comes enrobed in light, puffy batter while remaining flaky and buttery inside . • A Facebook review calls the cod “a good sized piece, fresh, and cooked perfectly with a light batter” alongside equally solid fries . • A TikTok-based description sums it up nicely: “Their fish and chips strike the perfect…” vibe for coastal dining . • The menu isn’t limited to fish & chips—expect fish tacos, chowder, burgers, and other seaside favorites . Service & Atmosphere Reviews often commend the friendly, helpful staff and the fun, casual atmosphere. It’s a place where the laid-back service matches the relaxed location . Points of Critique Not all feedback is glowing. Some guests feel that the prices are a tad high, and a few describe the food as merely “mediocre” or “overpriced” for what’s served . There are occasional remarks of disappointing visits, albeit less common .

I was having a fish & chips craving, so my husband took me to Crescent Beach for a cute lunch date and we ended up going into Hooked Fish Bar because of the location, which was perfect as it overlooked the water. It was a Saturday early afternoon and we sat outside on their patio which most of the customers were since it was a beautiful afternoon. The person who sat us wasn't the most friendly staff, but luckily the server we had was very polite and sweet. We ordered two beers, the Fish & Chips, I had the one piece and my husband had two. Our drinks came quickly and by the time I had a few sips, our food was already at our table, so the wait time was not long at all. The food looked good, but the tartar sauce lacked flavor and could have used a bit more help in the relish and lemon department. The coleslaw was also nothing to be excited about as well; the lack of flavor was the missing component to the entire dish. It wasn't terrible, but it also also wasn't great. The positive side was the fries were delicious and the fish did have a nice amount of batter to it, ratio and color wise. The food was a bit pricey for the amount you get - for 2 beers and fish & chips, the price was $65, which seemed a bit steep for what we got; I guess that the price you pay for the view. All in all, the view and service was great.

This fish bar has a wonderful view of the ocean. It's too bad that the food we ordered was less memorable. The seafood chowder my gf and I ordered had very little seafood, it had maybe 3 small pieces of salmon and I had to look for the shrimp only to find a little piece of one and there wasn't any cod at all, this was more of a potato and carrot chowder soup ($12.50). Expected more salmon, cod and shrimp, especially when you're by the ocean. My friend ordered the deep fried calamari, it had a few good pieces of calamari but also had pieces of just batter, not worth the $17. The margarita my other friend ordered was served in a glass that had a noticable chip and crack on the side which they thought they could hide it with a slice of lime. Guess they didn't think she was going to remove that slice of lime before she drank her drink. Brought it to our waiter's attention and he replaced it right away. Guess we just paid for the view.

I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but my experience at Hooked Fish Bar in White Rock was deeply upsetting and handled with such a lack of empathy and accountability that I feel the need to share it.

I had recently undergone dental surgery and was wearing a temporary denture, which I carefully placed on my plate during dinner with two of my girlfriends. I stepped outside for a few minutes while one of them remained at the table. When I returned, the server had already cleared the plate—and with it, my denture, which was clearly visible and not covered with any napkin, contrary to what the server claimed. This was an expensive and essential medical device, and just like that, it was gone.

What followed was humiliating. My two friends (one a dentist and the other a lawyer) and I were forced to dig through two garbage bins—both inside and outside the restaurant—searching through plates of food and sauce-covered waste, in front of staff and guests. One kind server did assist us, and I appreciated her effort, but the overall reaction from the team was appalling.

Even after such a distressing incident, we were still asked to pay the full bill, which felt completely heartless given the circumstances. I later emailed the owner (who was apparently on vacation) and followed up multiple times without any response. I also called the restaurant, only to be spoken to rudely by staff who told me there was nothing they could do and, in essence, to leave them alone.

Yes, I understand that I should have brought my denture case, and I take responsibility for that part. But the way the situation was handled—especially the cold, dismissive attitude, the lack of compassion, and the complete absence of accountability from management—was beyond disappointing.

I would never return to this restaurant again. Situations like this require human decency, and unfortunately, I didn’t...

I’d like to share my experience today at Hooked Fish Bar and my reason for 5 Gold Stars, well the Gold is for “Erin” our server. Today was a beautiful sunny day at Crescent Beach which brought in its usual large crowd. “Erin” was running the show “alone” she greeted customers, cleared tables, took orders, ran back and forth to the kitchen every time the Bell rang signalling “order up”, she served drinks, ran the bar, worked the cash, also took orders from the take out window for which had a line up, the resturant side had a long line up too, resturant was almost full, on top of following Covid regulations... the list is endless, this woman is a machine! “But” Erin did it “ALL” with Grace, a Smile and she hustled! “Thank you Erin” for all your hard work and for providing an amazing dining experience, you truly are a wonderful human being. I’d also like to acknowledge the Chef who kept up the pace and for the great food, thank you.

I’d like to reach out to owners Francina and John for whom I will be calling personally to follow up on my posting. I ask you to please take a good look at your daily total for Nov 8th and camera footage to acknowledge and commend your staff especially “Erin” for she is the reason your business was so successful today and I’m sure other days too. She has a work ethic and kindness that is so valuable and I truly hope you appreciate her and share this message. So many of us dining today could not believe she would be left alone to run such a busy resturant, however she did so with such class and efficiency that your clientele will surely return. We all complemented her work ethic and how she kept a sincere smile the whole time.

I truly hope you reward her for taking such good care of your business and...

Came here last night for a bite to eat as a party of 6 with a very tight time crunch. We were looking for something in the area, and the first place we found was closed. I'm so glad it was, because that gave us the opportunity to stumble on this gem of a restaurant! We wanted to dine in so my niece would be able to sit and eat, but we were in a hurry to catch a white rock sea cruise in 20 min. We put them up for quite the task, to cater to 6 people in a 20 min time span (including time to eat,) but they impressively lived up to the challenge! Our WONDERFUL waitress, Kaitlyn(sp?) was an absolute Rockstar! Not only was she amazingly kind, but she worked with us to find what would be the best things to order with our timeframe we gave her, and made sure our orders were put in very promptly, brought us to-go boxes as we knew we wouldn't have time to sit for the full meal, and when my sister-in-law wanted a suprise yummy drink, she came through and delivered something perfect for her! All of us were able to get food on time before needing to head off for the next adventure. As my family is from out of province (MB) they were so pleasantly happy to have such amazing, fresh, fish and chips / fish tacos / etc. Everyone was extremely happy! I myself had the pulled pork poutine and it was also absolutely delicious! I wish I had photos to post along with this, but with the rush we were in, I didn't even think to snap any. All I know is this restaurant, Kaitlyn, and the cooks in the back deserve special recognition because we were a very happy group leaving this restaurant, and I'm sure it was no easy task! Now that I know of this restaurant, I cannot wait to go back. Thank you again staff at Hooked...
