The Welland Canal is a 43 km (27 mile) ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller to Port Colborne, its eight locks enable ships to ascend and descend the 99.5 meter (326 feet) elevation difference between the lakes, and bypass the 51 meter (167 ft.) Niagara Falls. Lock 7 in Thorold, Ontario, shown above, is the highest point of the canal system at 174.3 metres (572 feet)...

The view from Lock 7 of the Welland Canal is pretty awesome. You have to view the ships from the top of the hill as they go through the lock. Take a time-lapse video to see how cool this really is. The ships have to move very slowly going through. Watching it live is pretty amazing, and for those watching your video, they will love the time-lapse more. Hope this helps! Lock 8 is pretty amazing, too. That one is in...

Overall it is amazing to see.... Just disappointed with poor and lacking view platforms or such. It is virtually non existent. It is not immersive experience for those who was expecting more. It is beautiful area and cool nevertheless. Just disappointed with no viewing platforms or such. City should build more immersive experience and...

I love to come here and watch the ships when my wife and daughter are at the outlet mall nearby. Hours can be spent watching big ships squeeze into these locks and hop up or down the Niagara escarpment. I find myself wondering about life at sea every time. The engineering that it took to build this is awesome. Video shown is a 5x speed time lapse.
