Every year on the 2nd weekend in October, NCC holds their Annual Pow Wow and Trail of Tears Memorial walk here at Port Royal State Park.This location was the final campgrounds where the Native Americans camped before traveling down the Red River during the Forced Removal to Oklahoma. There are parts of the original trail still here. One portion which comes in front of Port Royal State Park's building is blacktopped. The other portion is not and has been maintained over the years.
