Fast, Flavorful, and Fun — But Payment Surprise

We visited Gyubee on a friend’s recommendation, and it did not disappoint!

🍽 Food & Service

We arrived a little early (smart move — the wait at peak times can be long) and were seated quickly. Rachel, our server, was attentive, patient, and very helpful. Since it was our first time, she let us try small portions instead of committing to full orders (like sampling a single cow tongue piece instead of a six-piece order). Huge plus.

Food delivery speed blew me away — orders arrived within 30 seconds to 2 minutes. For an all-you-can-eat spot, that’s rare. The downside is that it all arrives at once, so sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s what, but staff were quick to explain.

My favorites: Prime Kalbi Marinated Bone-In Kalbi Miso Beef Brisket Garlic Beef Brisket Miso Marinated Steak Mushroom Medley

The lamb and Nagoya-style chicken wings were okay but not repeat orders for me. For dessert, the ice cream and crème brûlée were solid, and the deep-fried rice cakes were okay on their own — but amazing dipped into vanilla ice cream!

They enforce a 2-hour seating limit, but with how quickly food comes, you’ll be full well before then. Unlike some AYCE places that slow down service as your time runs out, Gyubee kept the pace consistent.

🔥 Grills & Cooking

The grill is a mesh style instead of solid metal, and surprisingly, food didn’t fall through much. Most meats are thinly sliced, so they cook quickly. The grills are on the smaller side though — perfect for two, but a table of four might find it slow waiting for food to cook. Staff also replaced our grill twice without us asking, which was a nice touch.

🧾 Payment Surprise

Here’s where they lost a star. When it was time to pay, I was told cash or debit only. No signs, no notice, nothing. They no longer do the “5% cash discount” I had heard about, but if you don’t have cash or debit, they’ll take an e-transfer. This could be a serious problem for people who don’t carry either (I only had cash thanks to my wife). A bit of a shock at the end of an otherwise smooth experience.

🪑 Atmosphere & Accessibility

The restaurant is clean, modern, and well-kept. There’s an upstairs with extra seating, but grills aren’t available there. Bathrooms are also upstairs, and I didn’t notice any accessible washrooms or elevators, which could be a barrier for some.

✅ Final Verdict

Great food, lightning-fast service, and attentive staff make Gyubee a standout AYCE grill. But the lack of clear payment options drops it to 4 stars ✨ for me. If you go, bring cash or debit...

Gyubee Scarborough - An All-You-Can-Eat Journey Through Japanese Barbecue

As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of all things grilled and smoky, I recently had the pleasure of discovering Gyubee Scarborough, a hidden gem of a Japanese BBQ restaurant that offers an all-you-can-eat dining experience. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I knew I was in for a culinary adventure like no other.

The ambiance of Gyubee Scarborough is nothing short of captivating. The spacious, open-concept dining room is adorned with traditional Japanese artwork and intricate woodwork, creating an atmosphere that transports you straight to the bustling streets of Tokyo. At the center of the room lies the pièce de résistance - a series of state-of-the-art grills, where the skilled chefs artfully prepare a variety of premium meats and vegetables right before your eyes.

The buffet selection at Gyubee Scarborough is a masterclass in Japanese BBQ, offering an impressive array of high-quality proteins, from tender Wagyu beef to succulent pork belly and juicy chicken. Each item is seasoned to perfection, allowing the natural flavors to shine through while tantalizing your taste buds. Alongside the meats, there is a delightful selection of kimchi, pickled vegetables, and an array of dipping sauces that complement the grilled offerings perfectly.

As I navigated the buffet, I was amazed by the level of skill and precision demonstrated by the chefs. They expertly tended to the grills, ensuring each bite was cooked to the perfect temperature and doneness. The lively atmosphere, with the sizzling sounds and aromatic smoke, only added to the overall experience, making it feel like a true celebration of Japanese culinary artistry.

By the time I had worked my way through the seemingly endless selection of meats and sides, I was left in a state of pure gastronomic bliss. Gyubee Scarborough has undoubtedly elevated the art of Japanese barbecue, offering an unforgettable all-you-can-eat dining experience that seamlessly blends traditional techniques with modern flair. If you're a lover of all things grilled and smoky, or simply seeking an authentic taste of Japan, I cannot recommend Gyubee Scarborough highly enough. It's a culinary adventure you won't...

I recently had the pleasure of being served by Jacky, and I cannot speak highly enough about the incredible service he provided. From the moment we were seated to the very end of our dining experience, Jacky was the epitome of professionalism, warmth, and efficiency.

Jacky greeted us with a genuine smile and immediately made us feel welcome. He took the time to explain the menu, answered all of our questions with patience, and even offered insightful recommendations based on our tastes. His knowledge of the dishes and ingredients was impressive, and his passion for ensuring a great experience was evident in every interaction.

Throughout our meal, Jacky was attentive without ever being intrusive. He checked in at just the right times, refilled drinks promptly, and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. What truly stood out was his ability to anticipate our needs—whether it was bringing extra napkins, offering to split a dish, or accommodating a dietary request, he handled it all seamlessly and with a kind, can-do attitude.

Even during what appeared to be a busy service, Jacky remained composed, friendly, and focused. He made each table feel valued, and we noticed he treated every guest with the same level of care and attentiveness. That kind of consistency and dedication is rare and deeply appreciated.

Thanks to Jacky, our evening was not just a meal—it was a memorable experience. He transformed a simple dinner into something truly special through his thoughtful service and warm personality. It’s clear that Jacky takes pride in his work, and it reflects in the quality of service he provides.

If you have the chance to be served by Jacky, consider yourself lucky. He is an incredible asset to the team and a shining example of what exceptional hospitality looks like. I would return to this establishment again and again just to be served by him. Thank you, Jacky, for making our night so enjoyable! I will definitely bring my family over from China here!! I LOVE JACKY...

I was missing the many delicious BBQ restaurants I enjoyed while vacationing in Korea, so I came here to satisfy my craving. This location can get quite busy, so it's a good idea to call ahead and/or make a reservation. There is plenty of free parking on-site. Inside is a very nice atmosphere with table top BBQs. The flame and metal grill is much better than the flat, round grills at some of the restaurants, because you can really taste that smoky flavour. The extremely high ceilings allow for excellent ventilation of smoke as well. There is a good variety of meats available and plenty of other sides and options as well. The quality of meats is pretty good, but not what I was used to in Korea. The thin cut pork belly is VERY thin. The thick cut is much better, but comes cut in small pieces. I really miss the large, thick portions in Korea that can be cut to your preference yourself at your table with a pair of scissors/shears. I also missed the sesame oil and metal chopsticks, but I think that might just be a Korean thing. The Prime Kalbi/ Boneless Shortrib, Sweet Soy Marinated Shortrib and Shrimps were all quite good. The lettuce was fresh and the steamed rice was hot. The kimchi and samjang were surprisingly good as well. We finished our meal off with creme brule and ice cream cones. There is a 2 hour seating limit, but that is quite reasonable and still gives plenty of time to try several items and get your money's worth. The service was very pleasant and efficient. Overall, the bill came to around $110 for 2 people, including tax and tip (tip is already included in the bill). They only accept cash and Interac payments, so no credit card cash back! Overall, it definitely wasn't Korea, but it did satisfy my craving...and without the 14.5 hour flight! Lol. The service is good and the price is quite reasonable. I hope to return again soon to try some of the items I didn't get a chance to try on this visit.
