Read moreOne of my favourite places to visit when catching up with friends. There is free parking and a conveniently placed public washroom right next to it. Close by from there is a little water play area and a play ground of children to enjoy. I frequently see children having a great time, it almost makes me want to jump on in on the fun myself. As you walk down the cement trail you go under a tunnel beneath the railroad. It has beautiful graffiti that is updated every once in a while. Ill admit, I enjoy looking for what is new on the "mural" and think it is a really cool place to take pictures in front of. When you come out of the tunnel you can begin to see the lake. If you go left it is a nice place to walk, bike, rollerblade, skate, jog / run, you name it! A friend and I even stopped onto the grass along the our walk near a tree and had a great yoga session with a beautiful view! That trail will continue further down towards the beachfront in Pickering. To the right of the trail from the tunnel you'll see a tall white gazebo. The last time I visited I saw a bunch of friends coming together and getting ready to surprise the love of someone's life! Very romantic scenery. There are large rocks and a couple of benches near by to sit on and relax. You can also sit down to have a bite with the convenience of a recycling bin and garbage bin near by to make it easier for people to drop off their garbage and continue on the trail. It seems like they have people to regularly clean up garbage around the area because every time I visit I rarely see garbage laying around. If you keep going there is a separation in the trail that leads back to the same trail that connects further down towards the guildwood bluffs. I'll come here most often with friends but occasionally by myself for some time to think and friends near by often tell me the same. Many of my friends also enjoy taking pictures around here for their...
Read moreHow did I not know about this hidden gem? A family friend told me to visit, and we did! Parking was plentiful, and free!
I would highly suggest to the City, that signs be posted on how to actually get to the waterfront!
After parking, the washrooms are to your right, and there seems to be a small walking trail to the left. So, which way to go? We ended up going left, which led us nowhere after a few minutes, but no problem we just backtracked.
To the RIGHT, keep walking, and you will see a small underpass, take that and keep walking …. to the waterfront, and a bike trail. We took a ton of photos, and I always feel like I’m on vacation when I’m next to the water!
Suggestions:
Take and wear sunscreen, and a hat
Bring a water bottle, there are no stores in the immediate area
Bring insect repellent, there are a lot of flies and mosquitoes
Wear comfortable shoes
I didn’t see any picnic tables, except near the entrance, so if you want to eat, you can do so...
