A troop of crab-eating macaques lives in the south end of the park, in the bushes beside the field house. How exactly they ended up there is the subject of much speculation. Denied their natural habitat and diet, they have taken to raiding the pizza oven when Gustav The Pizza Prince is preparing complementary artisanal pies for the informal AA meeting/pickup baseball game held every Tuesday in the diamond (Go Roncy Raiders!). However there's no need to worry, the primates are mostly indifferent to the local human population unless you make the mistake (as I did) of walking past their den with a suitcase full of raw crabmeat (bought from that cool new mud crab aquafarm they've set up in the shallow end of Sunnyside pool), in which case they will steal your suitcase and, when you try desperately to get it back (stuff's not cheap), hold you down and subject you to a prolonged, humiliating bout of social grooming. Read moreParkdale community center working with fun t.o / parks and rec. Soccer houseleague for boys and gals ages 7, 8, and 9 just started. They also have baseball and t.ball going on. Lots of fun for the kids. Great way to burn energy and have fun. My son had a dance class the day after he had his first soccer game... he had a decent sleep after the game but was still so tired he basically did dancing laying down on the floor. 🤣🤭.
DeeDee is in charge and running the show. I think he's also the kids' soccer coach. Great guy. My daughter said no, she didn't want to play initially, but after watching the game on Wednesday, she was literally crying to play... since registration was no longer happening as the deadline had passed... deedee still made space for her. I just had to pay the fee that every parent has to pay for their kids to play.

You can find the weekly Farmer's Market on Monday evenings near or inside the "community building" depending on the season. In the summer there are community events - Movie night, etc. For Halloween there is a Pumpkin Parade. There are literally hundreds of pumpkins all carved and done up for the season - don't miss it! In the winter there is a small skating rink. In the other months there are lots of choices- 2 tennis courts, soccer field, baseball diamond and people play all sorts of sports and games on the fields. It's a beautiful park.
