Nostalgic and vibrant, Revue Cinema acts as a portal to the past life of movie theatres. From the welcome kiosk to the one auditorium with no seating assignment, every part of this small yet unique establishment is a gem. They play memorable movies and there is always a line up for them. You should usually come about 30 minutes before so you can get a head start on snack line up (its always a long line), or just find a good seat, or both. Surprisingly convenient that there is a big parking lot about 5 minute walk away from here so even though its in the choas of downtown streets, you can still drive here with no worries about finding parking. The employees are professional and fast paced. They provide speedy service at the concession and attend to the issues that arrise very quickly (spill cleaning and such). The one auditorium has a sort of "hit or miss" type of chairs. I've been here two times and one time left with a backache and one time had high level of comfort, which makes it even more important to show up way before your showing. As for the one star deducted, a few factors contributed to it. The facility is poorly maintained. Damaged/worn and torn walkways, walls, and wirings out in the open. Its truly painful to see such a wonderful establishment not be taken care of the way it should be. Another contributing factor was that the popcorn was burnt in both my visits which was disappointing.

Love this place! It's Torontos oldest movie theatre, which is designated as a heritage site, built between 1911 & 1912. I am so happy to see that it has been maintained very well over the years. It's clean, has comfy seating, and offers the usual confections that other more modern theatres have. I don't live in the area but always try to catch a silent film when the silent film festival is on. So nice that they usually have the movies run with the accompaniment of live music. I'm not sure if they have current movies play there, but I noticed older ones shown on their calendar, like Alien! Very scary, lol. It's definitely a place worth going to.

Having paid a quasi-sawbuck & fin, i 'd 've appreciated NOT having to plug my ears during the movie --- given how the ridiculous volume level ultimately 'pains' one (withal) --- despite my haphazard attempts at shrugging it off as a ‘fleeting irritation’ (…in the same veign as a momentary ambulance, else firetruck; + keep in mind i 've travelled to cities thruout N. America & abroad whereas Toronto ALREADY has the 'screechiest' firetrucks + ambulances the world over; ...likely a leftover from a century back wherein NO ONE ever bothered turning 'sirens' down a notch)! Nonetheless, what REALLY hurt is when I 'd requested (+ congenially, at that) that they kindly 'tone it down' (almost mid-way-thru) --- whereupon they in-fact DID NOT; whereupon i again inquired as per just 'why' (mid-way) wherein the gentleman gruffly retorted how "There ‘s no one else complaining" --- ...(to wit): i.e.: everyone else is TOO COURTEOUS to want to stand-out-in-the-crowd + 'impose' on ‘gruff(?)’ cine-site 'arbitrators' who alone get to decree just how + when anyone 'll experience a sub-titled showing-per-se! I 'd imparted how 'sound' is (ideally) an 'art' which should 'intrigue you' by starting off low (i.e.: 'tickling your ear AND mental palette') whereby it then 'grows' on you incrementally. ALL art --- if IN YOUR FACE; whether sound or visual --- is SHEER NOISE & STATIC! Incidentally: I ‘d given up after my 2nd attempt at communicating, seeing as it seemed apparent I was merely being regarded as a 'nuisance’; notwithstanding how I frequent various cinemas +...

Revue Cinema is very nice. It's the old school movie theatre with nice decor inside. The staff are always friendly and very efficient when it's busy. It's a small theatre so I recommend getting your popcorn and beverages early. If you don't you may be standing in a line that stretches to the middle of the aisle (which it often does on a busy night) like it did tonight. I often go here for Drunken Cinema which is a great event that runs once a month. I went today for my third time and I highly recommend it. The Revue shows a lot of movies you wouldn't normally get to see. For example they're showing an old Charlie Chaplin movie in late March that I didn't even know about, and there will be live accompaniment by a piano player too! I'd enjoy seeing this. So as you can tell, all this is really great. I highly recommend the Revue but don't forget to buy your...
