I first visited the Greek Freak in Pickering/Ajak when I was looking for something to eat for lunch. Had an incredible gyro. I was happy to see that I didn’t have to travel to the Danforth to get a decent gyro. Months later I found out about the new location closer to my home. My first visit to this location went well. I was very happy with my gyro. A month or two later I ended up picking up a gyro for my self as well a few family members and we were all happy with what we had. Worth of a 5 star rating forsure. Unfortunately my last 3 visits were not so great. I was very disappointed because just before my next visit I told a couple friends of mine about this place and they took my word for it. Only later to find out they were not crazy about the gyro from Greek Freak. I know this is silly to say but it made me look bad since I bragged about this place. They ended up telling me they were disappointed and that we need to stick to Alexandro’s or Mezzini on the Danforth. I ended going back a couple weeks afterwards to be disappointed myself. I ended up tasting a strong lamb taste. Which is concerning since I don’t think they have lamb on the menu. I’m Greek myself and enjoy lamb . But when you expect a pork gyro and you start tasting lamb you don’t know what to think…and wonder what’s going on. I just figured that some lamb got mixed in by accident since I didn’t see it come off the spit. About a month or two later I went back. I verified with the guy that took my order about the meat and he said it was strictly pork. Unfortunately I had the same experience. I tasted strong unwelcoming hints of lamb. I didn’t know what to think at this point. I was in denial. Couldn’t bring myself to think anything negative. I told myself that there’s no way these guys would serve bad meat and that there must have been a mix up from their supplier and some lamb got mixed in. Just the other day I finally went back after a long absence. Long for me at least because I thought that I would of been a weekly visitor of this place by now because of the first few 5 star experiences I had there. I didn’t taste any lamb this time I don’t think. It was hard to taste the meat period. All I could taste was lemon. Way to much lemon. Like it was dipped in lemon to mask the taste of lamb. At this point I can confirm that the once hopeful thought of having a place near by to pick up a great gyro is gone . But I will continue to randomly visit this place in the hopes that this review is noticed and has made the operator aware that there is a tone of gyro lovers out there that would be loyal to them if they could consistently pump out a perfect product. One thing that I observed was that the times I went to this restaurant and wasn’t happy I noticed that when my gyro was prepared, the meat was sitting in the stainless steel food warmer . Chances were it was from the day before since I was there almost right when it opened for the day and the noticed the meat on the spit wasn’t touched. I believe a great gyro can only be made when the meat is trimmed right off the spit onto your pita. I don’t know anything about running a restaurant but I do know the Greek Freak pumps out quality souvlaki and all the sides that come with it. The place is super busy especially with the delivery apps. I just feel that their might be a little bit of an over site with the gyro since the place exploded and hope my review show the owners how obsessive and particular and crazy some people are when it comes to gyros and hope these issues can be corrected. I will give this place a couple more chances but after that I will continue to make the trip to the danforth. Please do better, you can do better, you have to do better. We all want you...
Read moreThis is not the Wilson location. I don’t know why the owner thinks It’s the Wilson location. It is the Ajax location on Bayly Road . Just want to clarify that.
I walk in to order a pork souvlaki stick for the second time because the last time I ordered it was dry and it was small morsels with fat and not even enough meat and gristle. So I made them aware of this. I thought I’d give it another try. Then I spoke to THE Person , a man and I said maybe I should try a chicken instead and he says it’s better. So that’s what I did. I ordered a chicken stick that comes with two slices of pita and a tzatziki. I also added an extra pita for $1.46. The point is they forget to include the extra pita that I paid for and they’re looking at me with dirty looks like it’s all my fault, especially the girl who’s at the front making the salads. She had no respect , she was rude, talk down to me and embarrassed me in front of all the customers like it was all my fault and I didn’t do anything. I just said I didn’t get what I ordered and this is how I was treated .Please do not go to these people , there’s other good Greek restaurants in Ajax , they do not deserve anything. The food hasn’t been the same anymore since the new management has taken over anyway, even the Greek potatoes are not good. I’m sorry for writing this negative review, but I am a paying customer and I do not need to be humiliated by anybody especially young little girl who’s in her early 20s is lucky to have a job… Putting salads together !! I didn’t even get an apology and they were in the wrong in the first place. If they know how to run a business, they would smooth it over and just do what you’re supposed to do like what we all do when we’re put in a position when we are wrong. They don’t deserve the business. They need a major correction and attitude change. They all look like they hate working there and they hate what they do, what does that tell you! And they’re handling your food on top of it! I’m sure I’m not the only customer that...
Read moreJesus Murphy all 3 chicken souvlaki sticks were extremely salty but for most unrefined unsophisticated typical especially unhealthy taste buds they may not know better and think it tastes good. They have to cut the salt by literally at least 40% In there preps and marinating. Our blood pressure spiked hard! Way too much salt.. Horrible. The things they do to cater to the masses and fool people that it tastes good because they load it with salt. EVEN the tzatziki was extremely salty omg. Wow. I've had much better tzatziki. There TZATZIKI is very artificial and it's missing the key ingredients. It's more like a garlic sauce or something. The Greek village salad etc was quite good however and very fresh. The Spanakopita and pork das decent. The village salad should have blocks of feta, not shredded feta. Perhaps maybe this is not the usual.. Will give it a try again.. but my guess is the owners grew up loading there food with salt. Yikes. Hopefully they make this major adjustment...Now I know hwy Greek love thefe lemon with everything, it's to break down the ridiculous salt of needed. Perhaps maybe provide some lemon with the souvlaki . I would try them again hopefully will be...
