Vijay Thanigasalam, MPP for Scarborough-Rouge Park — Attraction in Toronto

If you are dealing with a hospital governance failure or patient safety issue, do not expect advocacy from this office.

I approached MPP Vijay Thanigasalam’s office regarding serious systemic failures at Scarborough Health Network including injuries sustained during psychiatric detention, misuse of Form 1, concealment of documentation, and the denial of Substitute Decision-Maker (SDM) rights. These are matters of public oversight and Ministry accountability.

His staff dismissed the matter as a "legal issue" simply because I had reported the harm to the Toronto Police Service and the Ministries. That is factually and ethically incorrect filing with oversight bodies is not the same as initiating a lawsuit. This deflection allowed them to avoid engaging with Ministry divisions responsible for hospital oversight.

Worse, they pre-emptively blocked information sharing and refused to provide consent forms before I had even signed them a clear obstruction of due process and a failure in their duties as a publicly funded representative office.

MPP offices exist to escalate cases involving publicly funded institutions when patient safety is at risk not to dismiss and deflect. This office failed that duty. Shamefully...

I reached out to Vijay via email and sent several follow up emails as a concerned constituent of Ontario for his support of Bill 5. It is really disheartening to know that this MP doesn’t have the care to respond to his constituents.

I urge Vijay to remember that the people of Ontario have entrusted you with a significant responsibility. You work for the public, and your duty is to listen to and address the concerns of your constituents with integrity and respect.
