I have never been to the winery, but I can speak to the character of one of the owners, Nigel: "Determined and goes the extra mile"
I felt this was necessary. So travelling back from Kelowna I placed my cellphone on the roof of my van at Starbucks. Just past West Kelowna my phone fell off the car and was on the side of the road. The GPS location was a little hard to get, but it was close. I then looked up every business that was remotely close to where it fell off; but most business were closed by this time. I was in Hope at the time and finally decided to call the Winery at around 6pm and left a voicemail. At 6:30pm just out of Hope I get a call from "OFF THE GRID" on my wifes cell phone, and Nigel is phoning me asking for a exact location so he can drive down and look for it. We didn't initially send a link he could just walk to but rather a picture of the pinned location so a little vague. He was walking along the freeway for some time. Then we figured out how to send an exact pin and shortly thereafter he sent a picture of the found phone.
The best part of our phone conversation was this, me: "Hey, if its too much trouble, just bail, its just a cell phone... Nigel: "No I am all in, this is something my dad would have done."
The reason I was in Kelowna was due to my wife's Grandma who is 95 and in palliative care. Three families went up to visit and the phone contained photos and videos that were very special. So it meant a...
Read moreBeen coming here every year for the past 5 years but this year was disappointing. When we entered the girl who greeted us was not friendly or welcoming. She asked if we'd been there before and I said it was one of my favorite wineries and she seemed surprised. My friend had never been there before and the worker at the desk didn't take any time to explain how the winery works or what makes it so unique and organic, as they had explained to us in the past on our first visit (one of the reasons I fell in love with the place to begin with). Then we kind of just stood there awkwardly and then finally I asked if we could do a tasting and she said ok. The man who did our tasting was nice but was also doing 3 other tastings and didnt have much time for us. He also shamed me when I said Id pair one of the reds with spicy food "I wouldn't do that it will enhance the spice" well, I just laughed and said I love spicy food so that sounds good to me. We asked if we could enjoy a glass of wine outside like we had in the past and now they make you buy a bottle if you want to drink outside. All in all a poor experience.
Edit: I visited PRIOR to the fires in Kelowna so the response from the owner is not reflective of my timing and the note about staff evacuations is puzzling because it had nothing to do with my visit or timing of being there. There were no fires during my visit so that shouldn't be an excuse for the...
Read moreI absolutely loved this winery! My career is in the environment field, so I could really resonate with the sustainable features they have implemented. Being an animal lover, it was so lovely to see that the winery space is also used as a sanctuary for farm animals. It was cool to see that the hens are still working and used to eat the bugs off of the grapes in the wineries.
My friend and I booked a picnic table here and had lunch from the food truck on site. We also did a wine tasting which was great. I ordered plant based food, but there weren't too many options. The vegan cheese was frozen, so I couldn't have the vegan poutine.
I was told that one of the brothers who own the winery is vegan, which is great and in line with what the winery represents. The reason I am giving it 4 starts out of 5 is because of the meat options in the food truck. For a winery that functions as a FARM animal sanctuary, I thought it was against it's purpose to serve meat. It doesn't make sense to rescue chickens and serve them on the menu as well. It would have been nice and more aligned to see all vegetarian/plant based options for food. Animal agriculture is one of the main causes of climate change, so I hope the winery implements this change and goes...
