Dairy Queen Grill & Chill — Restaurant in West Kelowna

Let me start by saying that the staff is great, but the manager and owner not so much. First time I had a problem was a couple of years ago when I called this location to get blizzard cupcakes. I wanted 6, but 3 different kinds but was told that I could only get all 6 of one kind. Called the other location in West Kelowna and it was no problem to getting this from them. Thought I would try this location again in May, 2021. Ordered a turtle blizzard cake for my friends birthday. Spoke to the manager, asked her some questions as I'm looking online, explained that my friend loves turtle's and she asked if I wanted to get happy birthday on top, I said sure. Got home with it and noticed there was no turtle topping on it, just plain white with writing. Served the cake and then noticed no blizzard middle layer as it is in picture, instead it was fudge cookie layer. Called, spoke to same manager. Asked what happed to turtle topping on top, she explained that she can't put writing on cake with topping so she didn't add it. Asked why this was told to me, she said "You Didn't ask" I was shocked with the response. Then asked about middle layer why it wasn't blizzard, was told that it isn't made that way, but I mentioned pic with it showing and she said it shows the cookie layer, I must be not looking at same pic. I contacted Dq head office and they explained that it should be made with blizzard topping in middle and would pass to the owner and include the managers attitude and get him to call me about it. Over a week later and no response, I called and spoke to Dave, part owner, he explained he was busy... away for awhile.. He did agree that manager didn't have to speak to me that way but as for the cake it was made correctly and head office was wrong, but said he would make it up to me when it comes time to order my next one. Sent Dave an email in July asking to order a cake and to contact me, 5 days later no response, called Dave, he explained again that he is busy... Asked about cake and he offered $10 off, i didn't think that was right, he asked what i thought, said half off, which works out to be $18 off. He said he can't, too much money to lose. Never again Dairy Queen Saturday my husband and I stopped at the D Q in Westbank next to the Shell station. I had a bathroom emergency ran into the DQ asked for the key . The young girl behind the counter said sorry our washrooms are for customers only. I said look I will buy something when I come out I need to go now!! We had just driven from ok falls and now in Westbank I desperately needed a bathroom. No I'm sorry you will have to buy something they are for customers only. I ran out to the car yelled at my husband go in buy something I need the bathroom. He looked at me like I had lost my mind. He goes in by this time I am beyond desperate I am going to have an accident whether in the bathroom or at the counter. This young girl looks at my husband holding the key in her hand smiles and asks him how may I help you? Oh my goodness just give me the Dam key. I told her when I gave back the key I hope you never have an emergency!!!! She could see clearly i was not a homeless person looking for a bathroom. I was a desperate older person in desperate need of a bathroom. Shame on you DQ I get rules are rules but use some common sense and discretion. My husband bought a small ice cream for $5.25 yes a small soft ice cream. Just so I could use the bathroom. That will be the last time never again DQ WESTBANK. Although not my first time going here, this particular Dairy Queen location has been consistently good most of the time. Today was one of those days. Had a load of 5 people in the car, had a somewhat extensive and diverse order and the young lady working the drive thru window was fantastic! Efficient, and even read all our orders back to me. Wait time was reasonable and she got everything correct and most importantly she was engaged and focused on her work, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. The Management here clearly spent some time selecting their staff well instead of the usual drab, un-engaged staff at most places who seem to want to be anywhere but working.
