Cathedral Church of the Redemption in New Delhi, also known as the Viceroy Church, is a church in India. The church is located east of Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan, formerly Viceroy House, which was used by then British Viceroy. The Cathedral Church of the Redemption serves the community through its activities in education and health. Music of the church is still on its organ built in 1931. Notable organists who played on the organ since its inception, were Sergeant Desmond Pye, Arthur Mahinder who played for thirty-two years and Bobby Chandy. The Cathedral Church of the Redemption traces its origin to the early 1900s. when the Reverend T. R. Dixon was appointed as the Chaplain to meet the spiritual needs of the British officers in the Capital of India. The Redemption Catherdral also known as the Viceroy Church is located close to Rastrapathi Bhavan, the present residence of the President of India. It was designed by Henry Medd and constructed between 1927 to 1931. The Catheral stands majestically in the centre of the plot with a lush green lawn in its frontage. The high dome like ceiling inside is meant to maintain the temperatures according to the seasons. It's very interesting to see that there is no pillar support in the building and the Altar has a beautiful stain glass picture of Mother Mary with baby Jesus and on the top of the frame are the statutes of Christ's crucifixion and at either sides of his Mother and favourite disciple. Attended this church today on a very special occasion after 40 long years. A must see when you are in our capital city.

Over eight decades old, this Anglican church is one of the oldest in Delhi. It situated to the east of the Parliament House and the Rashtrapati Bhavan, close to the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Both the churches were designed by British architect Henry Medd, after a competition organised by the British government. Its foundation stone was laid by the then Viceroy of India Lord Irwin in 1927, and the church was finally completed in 1935. Built of white Dholpur stone and red sandstone, it has a semi-Palladian design. The interiors have impressive arches and a vaulted ceiling, and house a historic pipe organ built in 1931. The church is especially festive on Christmas and Easter, when its choir performs carols and musical concerts in English, Hindi and Tamil.

The story of the Cathedral Church of the Redemption India revolves around its journey from an Englishman's congregation to a multicultural one. In its diversity and its community work, the present Church has come to fulfil the founders' vision of a common home, a meeting place for all sects and creeds.

Tucked away from the bustle of New Delhi, in the quiet Church lane north of Jaipur Column and to the west of Parliament House at North Avenue, stands the Cathedral Church of the Redemption India. The Church's centralized plan blends neatly with Sir Edwin Lutyens city plan. With Viceroy Lord Irwin's keen support, the Church, built on Henry Alexander Medd's (1892-1977) design, was opened for public worship on Sunday, 18 January 1931. H.A.N. Medd's design was inspired by the Palladio Church of Il Redentore in Venice as well as Lutyens Hampstead church.

The Church, a witness to nearly eight decades of history, is a sanctuary of quiet meditation, prayer and generous giving. It is home to a vibrant parish and a wonderful tribute to Indian Christian life.

Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi was planned by Henry Medd who was famed for his architectural accomplishments. The church resembles the miniature (London’s) St Paul's Cathedral and is inspired from Palladio's Church of Il Redentore in Venice. The cathedral was built between 1927 and 1935. It was built as the centre of Anglican worship. The exterior of the church creates an impression of a birthday cake with a candle placed upon it. Wedged between north of the Jaipur Column and the west of the parliament house Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi attracts devotees in...

Christianity in Delhi dates back to the of Akbar's reign. Akbar was popular for his secular way of thinking. He had invited a Jesuit priest from Goa in 1579 to receive knowledge on Christianity. Since then there has been several rise and fall of Christians, as per 2011 Census 0.87% residents of Delhi are Christians. There are several churches in Delhi that holds immense historical and cultural significance, some of the popular names are Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, St James Chrurch, etc. On Christmas, though the spotlight remains on Sacred Heart Church, i personally felt Cathedral Church of the Redemption is much more grandeur with a large green lawn in front , gardens on the back stood the majestic, beautiful piece of art, culture and heritage. The Cathedral Church of Redemption, also known as Viceroy Church was built during the viceroyship of Lord Irwin. Built by architect Henry Medd, the design overwhelmed Lord Irwin himself. With not much crowd and basking in the afternoon sun we spent a wonderful Christmas evening in...
