El Morro is a beautiful hill that you can climb on in just 15 minutes. On the top you will see huge part of Arica. There are reminders of an important historical point - Battle of Arica during The War of the Pacific, you can visit a museum there too. Locals are jogging, hiking or biking there. The monumental Chilean flag atop the hill is a must-see. Measuring 18 meters wide and 26 meters long, and weighing over 80 kilograms, it’s one of the largest flags I’ve ever seen. While its size feels like a display of overly confidence and national pride, it’s impressive to watch the wind give life to this massive symbol.

Read moreBeautiful scenery, great photo ops. This was the site of many battles, and now with a monument to peace. The huge Chilean flag and views of the shore and city of Arica below are gorgeous. We also paid to enter the museum (1,000 pesos adults, 500 for children, about $2 & $1 U.S.) it was simple yet good and did a good job painting the picture of the history of the Morro and momentous things that have occurred there.
