Consulate General of the United States, Guangzhou — Attraction in Guangzhou City

A very busy, but fairly efficient consulate. There are two lines, one for U.S. Citizens, and one for everyone else. The U.S. Citizen line is very short and fast. The other line .. not so much.

It may have just been the people in line at the time I was there, but the American side of the line, while short, was filled with rude and impatient Americans. The other line, was much longer, but polite, patient, and calm.

As an American, I was slightly appalled, yet proud and thankful to be a citizen of a country where we are free enough to be jerks without fear of prison.

Overall, my visit was slow-ish, but that is to be expected from any visit to a government office with long lines. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Another comment mentioned that everyone there was Chinese. That's totally inaccurate. There were several Chinese-Americans working there, but they all spoke...

Extremely terrible service. I am an applicant of F1 visa. The Chinese staff outside the building were rude to me. They said my visa photo was not acceptable, because of blabla. They asked me to use their photo booth to take a photo, which costs a lot. That's fine. I took the photo with the "official" photo booth. Then the staff told me "Your ears do not show up well on the photo, and you need to take new ones". It really angered me, because my ears look that naturally. I argued with them "Someone with different ears is not allowed to apply for a visa?" They finally let me in. But I feel really discriminated by these rude staff.

I have applied for visa in Beijing and Shanghai US Consulate. This ridiculous thing never happened to me before.

If you can, avoid this...

How long does it take to process a damn visa? It has taken me and my fiancee a whole freaking year! You guys are just prolonging our union! Your inability to process a damn visa is just down right horrible and by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Asking for documents that are not to your format but are exactly what you guys are asking and other things that does pertain to the application. Incompetence and a snail's pace my goodness! Your #800 and website are worthless! It was a terrible mistake to have picked you as the country to process our application. Have you no shame on the amount of stress and depression you have given? I see how much your rating is. It sucks! Improve it that you may better serve quickly,efficient. You poor...
