Checkerboard is very easy to find. Anyone can reach it. Come out of Lok Fu MTR exit A. You will see Circle K across the street. Turn left. Walk up Wang Tau Hom East Rd. Stay on the left hand side footpath. At the end you will see a set of stairs signage will point to Lok Fu Public Library. Walk up there. Once at the top, there is a pedestrian crossing about 20m on the right. Cross Junction Rd and walk up Fu On St. It will get pretty steep in the middle section but any one can do it. It’s a paved road. At the end of Fu On St you will reach Luk Fu Service Reservoir Rest Garden. Don’t walk into the park. Look to the left there is a small trail that will become a dirt track then will lead you to a stairwell. Go down the stairs, turn right and remain on this path. About 100m on this path look to your right 90 degrees and up and you will see the Checkerboard. Go further up this footpath and you will see a similar set of stairs like before. This will lead you to the Checkerboard. I’ve attached a map of how I reached the Checkerboard. And photos of landmarks to help you find your way. Enjoy.

I love the fact that this is an accessible hike / walk from Lok Fu mtr exit A. As you come out of exit A you can see a circle.K, turn left and walk until the end of the road and you can see steps. Climb up the steps and you will need to cross the road and you will see Lok Fu Park. On the left, there is a road, walk up the hill and you will be in checkerboard Hill in no time. The view from here is amazing. On the one side you can see old Kai Tak now with lots of construction, ICC, IFC and even the peak on a clear day. I think you can also see Wong Tai Sin in a distance. On the otherwise you can see the iconic Lion Rock. If you come up early, you can find a place got picnic and there is old water works building. If you want to watch the sunset and wait for the early evening lights to light up, bring a torch with you. Some interesting facts: This place was originally called kowloon tsai Hill. It was renamed to checkerboard because of the front facing red and white squares to guide incoming pilot to banked a turn to get ready to land in Kai Tak Airport.

A beautiful place with stunning views of the surrounding city and an interesting history. The route to get there isn't very obvious, I followed a guide I found online. The path doesn't seem well used, many of the stairs were loose or disintegrating. This damage may be recent though because I visited the day after hurricane Yagi, so there had been alot of heavy rain and wind. Some of the path is also overgrown. It's a really nice place and I had it completely to myself.

This was an easy hike, no difficulty. Anyone can hike even children (with guidance). Best to pay a visit is sunset. But not everyone know how to access it because there is no route show on the Google maps, once you reach to top from the public road, look for a public washroom. There is a small path with few stairs located in front on the public washroom. Follow the path and go around the fence, you will see the clear route toward to the top of the hill.

There are no details on how to reach this place. I had to ask 3 different locals for directions. I don't know why there are reviews that say it's an easy trail that children could do. There are tons of sharp metal stakes and bars sticking out of the ground. How is this safe? Is there an easier trail I don't know about? Did I come from the wrong way? I don't know, because there are no details on how to reach this place.

Stunning views on top of Hongkong! Must have been amazing back then when planes approaches Kai Tak Airport. It was quite a climb but worth it. Be careful when climbing - steep stairs and very narrow! Takes about 30 minutes from down the road where the schools are up and back down. Best way to enter is from Arts & Technology Education Center entering Lok Sui Park from Junction Road. No entrance fee - enjoy the pictures
