The quality of education here is honestly quite bad. Most lecturers aren't fluent in English, making them hard to understand. Worse still, this means that often they don't understand questions correctly, and therefore aren't much help. Their idea of teaching generally consists of simply reading out text from their slides - minimal interaction with students. Little emphasis is placed on understanding of fundamental concepts. Students also aren't allowed to use many of the lab facilities unless explicitly supervised by a professor in class. As an engineering student, I had to buy my own tools (soldering iron, 3d printer, etc) in order to learn and teach myself. Most classes tend to have few assignments and projects, and instead just massive final and midterm exams - a system that I find terrible for learning. Continuous assessment and application is a far better way of learning. The university is almost entirely lacking any sort of culture or traditions. This is particularly true if you're an international student - don't expect to find a lot of student organisations/clubs here. Those that do exist are almost entirely full of local Hong Kong students. They're not particularly friendly/outgoing and tend to speak in Cantonese, ignoring English speakers. Student residence no longer allows visitors (not even inter-hall visitors) due to the covid19 pandemic🤡. Every campus entrance has turnstiles where you have to tap your student ID to enter. Universities are supposed to be open to the public aren't they?

The best part about CityU are the international students. Thanks to the fact that CityU freely hands out full tuition scholarships to international students there's a relatively large percentage of them.

There is no support structure for students. The departments have little to no care about what the students are going through. In the academic year 2022/23, psychology students have been left hamstrung. Imagine a scenario where a student in their final year is sent a list of roughly 20 classes to pick from. The day you are about to register for classes you find out the department is "unable to offer" 12 of those classes. So basically, they lie on their website about how many classes you can actually choose from. On top of that, when students appeal they send obnoxious emails saying "refer to the list". I'm sure if you're a foreign student studying for a semester you'll have a great time. For those whose future is at stake DO NOT choose City U. They're a pathetic excuse of...
