Tag your friends where to next.Come and let's discover the "WISDOM PATH" in LANTAU ISLAND together.

There are 38 wooden columns or beams, each of which is about 8-10 meter tall, 1 meter wide and inscribed with Chinese calligraphy. The Chinese characters are the words from the Heart Sutra (般若波羅蜜多心經) written by master sinologist and calligraphy Professor Jao Tsung-I. The Heart Sutra’s Sanskrit title is Prajñāpāramitāhṛdaya, which can be translated as “The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom”.

In order to reflect the profound wisdom of the Heart Sutra and to impose the two-dimensional calligraphy into a three-dimensional architecture naturally, the thirty-eight timber columns with inscription of the Heart Sutra have been arranged to correspond to the topography of the landscape, and in a figure-of-eight configuration (i.e. the symbol of infinty "∞") symbolising infinity. The column located at the highest point of the hill is left blank to suggest the concept of "emptiness" (Sunyata), a key theme in the Heart Sutra.

🍁How to get there:

From Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal (Exit B of Tung Chung MTR station), take a 25-minute cable car ride to Ngong Ping. From Ngong Ping Village, walk to Ngong Ping Piazza and follow direction signs. The Wisdom Path is about 20 minutes away on foot. Another option is by riding bus number 23 off to Ngong Ping Village it will take about 45...

Wisdom Path ★★★★★

The Wisdom Path is a truly unique and inspiring experience. The 38 wooden pillars, each inscribed with a verse from the Heart Sutra, create a serene and meditative atmosphere. Walking through the path, surrounded by nature and ancient wisdom, is a truly calming and reflective experience.

The path is well-maintained and easy to navigate, making it accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. It's a great way to connect with nature and learn about Buddhist philosophy. so be prepared for a bit of a workout. However, the fresh air and beautiful scenery make it well worth the effort.

If you're visiting Ngong Ping, I highly recommend taking the time to explore the Wisdom Path. It's a truly special place that will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired and a great place to escape the crowds and connect...

The Wisdom Path is one of the interesting attractions at the Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island. This is a large scale reproduction of the revered calligraphy of Professor Jao Tsung-I called Heart Sutra (2002). The reproduction features 38 giant wooden columns with engravings, strategically positioned in a loose figure eight formation upon a gentle slope around 250-300 metres behind the Po Lin Monastery.

There is a short, 5 minute walking path (Wisdom Path) to see the wooden columns. There is another viewpoint of the columns if you continue up a 40 metre trail from the site. You can also walk the figure eight trail alongside the wooden columns. Note that if you visit on weekends, you may encounter a large number of tourists on the Wisdom Path, just like what you encounter at the monastery and the Big...

Loved it! Ok well the walk was a lot shorter than I thought, but that's not a bad thing when it's so cold. It was 8 degrees up there yesterday, so wear warm clothes! Go wander up through the walkway until you get to the start of the wisdom path. The actual path is obvious with its huge wooden sculptures. Its a little tiny but steep and the steps are uneven so be careful if you have problems with that sort of thing. It's by no means difficult as it's not a very long walk once to get there. There is a viewing platform of the wisdom path if you walk for 30 seconds on the track opposite, the one with the big wooden archway, you will see it when you just pass under the archway.
