I had a wonderful experience at this temple by joining their five-day meditation camp. Participants came from all over the world, and the camp was conducted in English. Instant translation in Cantonese and Mandarin was also available—an expression of their truly inclusive spirit.

We practiced various forms of meditation: sitting, walking, working, listening to the bell, and mindful eating, among others. It was a precious opportunity to recharge and reconnect my mind and body.

To my surprise, the dormitory was air-conditioned. The food was incredibly delicious—the sisters and brothers cooked with care and love, which made mindful eating easier and joyful. The entire camp was thoughtfully designed and smoothly run.

One of the lesser known attractions at Ngong Ping is the Lotus Pond Temple found a couple hundred metres down Ling Ping Drive. Today, the Lotus Pond Temple is also home of the Asian Institute of Applied Buddhism.

This is a two-storey temple build in the early 1990s. It is fronted by a small manmade pool with lotus plants and two large stone staircases up to the second level. There is a small hall on the ground floor with gilded shrine and deity statues. The upper hall has a larger figure of a golden buddha.

You can conveniently pass by and see the Lotus Pond Temple in 15-20 minutes while spending time sightseeing...
