Trip Monkey San Gil is a fantastic hostel at a fair price. We got in from a night bus very early and were greeted by the front desk person who made the check in quick and easy, showed us where we could leave our bags for the day, and introduced us to the very friendly ladies in the kitchen. Breakfast is great with 4 options and the ladies are very nice. Ask for the salsa picante if you like spice! We were then introduced to our activity liaison who helped us pick our activities over the next three days and his advice was spot on to make the most out of our time there. They put an emphasis on using companies that pay an honest wage to their staff and still offer a very fair price to the consumer. They also have agreements at each of the main companies that offer the excursions to add the cost to your bill at the hostel which is really convenient. The beds are comfortable even in the largest dorm I got great sleep. We met great people from all over the world. And the showers had good pressure hot water and soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided! ¿Que chimba?
Location is solid, they have a pool, some activities, and everyone that works there is legit. It’s the spot to stay in San Gil if you’re looking for a great...
Read moreIt is a great hostel! Like everyone has said: the staff is amazing. They are fun and helpful. Location is great, not too far from the center but enough so all the city noise is left outside. Great service for tours.
I stayed in a private room with private bathroom and I think this was not worth of the money :( dorms were much more comfy. In our room, the toilet was open from the top so all the humidity from the shower stayed in the room so you can't really actually use it. Also if you needed to use the toilet.. Well, everyone can hear and smell you in the room. And the door to the bathroom was crooked so it did not close :DD Also the private rooms are located right next to the info desk and the living room area, so it was incredibly noisy during the evening and sometimes even in the night. People listening music, drinking and chilling. All the dorms were on the other side of the building so they are quiet, they have wide beds in there, plugs, curtains etc.
I would 100% stay again, but I would choose the dorms instead the privates.

Read moreWe had a fabulous stay here. From the start the information about all the tours and how to make the most of our stay in San Gil went above our expectations and most certainly maximized our time in San Gil.
We ended up doing a cave tour, whitewater rafting, bungee, and paragliding and loved the companies we went with.
We loved the food, the convenience of the healthy breakfast options, fresh juice and coffee as well as the pizza made on bbq by the pool on some nights. We didn't cook during this stay but there was quite a large kitchen available for those that did.
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the dorm beds which each had their own light, privacy curtain, fan and quite a large locker.
When my boyfriend accidentally left his bungee certificate at a restaurant in town, they helped arrange a moto taxi to deliver it back for us. :)
Thanks for everything. Would recommend this place to any backpacker...
