As a Trip Advisor DESTINATION EXPERT for Colombia it is my pleasure to provide this well balanced and accurate review. I have been traveling to Colombia for the past 30 years and for the past 4 years living in Medellin.||||I have traveled and explored just about every area, every city and even more numerous small pueblos in Colombia than I can count. I have the time, the resources, the passion and the experience to understand reasonable expectations when it comes to Colombian hotels, hostels, restaurants, bars, activities, things to do and see and tours.||||I am pleased to provide this review of the Hotel Castillo Resort in San Gil. I have been visiting San Gil for the past 10 years and my most recent visit was last week and so stayed 2 nights/3 days at this hotel.||||I have read the other reviews here on TA and other sources and frankly this review is difficult to really wrap my head around and write, but let me try and maybe you can see if this hotel should be a consideration for your stay.||||First off they should take the phrase of "Resort" off it's name and simply call the hotel The Hotel Costillo as this is not a resort hotel destination by any measure. I am just trying to keep it real here. When a hotel calls itself a "Resort" hotel it automatically puts an expectation of the hotel and its staff and the services they provide but they just don't or can't make the cut of a resort hotel so it does a dis-service to the guests and the hotels reputation.||||Now this being said I actually enjoyed my 3 days and 2 nights here. Nothing to write home about but the staff were all pleasant, my room and bathroom was reasonably clean and I enjoyed my 6th floor room with a balcony overlooking the rushing river below. ||||Yes the hotel looks like they are doing a piece meal reconstruction of many different locations of the hotel so nothing looks completely done/done. In my room there were a few light switches that did not work, a bulb or two that were not operable however the bed and pillows and covers proved a restful sleep. The TV and the air conditioning worked well.||||Now hear this - I believe this hotel to be a great stay for families with kids. Every kid that I saw looked happy and satisfied as they played and swam all day in the nicely appointed pool. For this reason I give 4 stars to this hotel despite the short comings of the hotel and grounds, which are many, but again I must say that I saw every kid with a big smile on their faces. Whats that worth!||||I did drive in from my home in Medellin so the free parking was nice and it did have a somewhat security guard in the front gate/parking area.||||True that the breakfast is so-so but a quick way to start the day. The location of the hotel is superb as I walked to the main park and back a number of times and it only takes an easy 15 minute walk to get there.||||The price is reasonable, my guest and I, the 2 of us paid about 170,000 pesos a night so I feel that the value is good. The hotel could be really something special if the ownership invested money and effort to finish all the projects and keep up with the maintenance and provide a true "resort" hotel experience.||||Would I return and stay again, probably not but that is only because I like to experience different hotels. Would I recommend this hotel for you, yes if you had kids who loved to swim and play, hands-down yes but just have reasonable expectations of the hotel...
Read moreJune 3-6 2019.This hotel says they are a Resort. Do not let them fool you. That photo is a lobby toilet without a toilet seat, dirty. There was no hot water in the hotel and l got into an argument with a lier front desk clerk that said it was broken when in fact the hotel was empty of guests and they just didn't want to turn it on. My sister in another room couldn't take a shower for 2 days since there was no hot water. Every time we wanted to take a shower, we had to go downstairs to ask. It took 4 trips to the front desk. Only 2 small towels provided, no room phone, no furniture in the room except for the bed, 2 small little tables and a small chair. No hot water at the bathroom sink at all, no hot water pipes. The hotel is under constant construction and unfinished. Alot of broken things in the hotel. Real slow service in the restaurant without a menu. We waited 45 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for breakfast the next day. I only gave it 1 star because if it wasn't for the location, i would give no stars.
This guy below is a rude person and a liar, fist of all he is NOT the owner. The owner of the hotel should have the balls to answer for this. After 4 trips to the front desk, naked standing in the bathroom waiting for hot water, I must have waisted 1000 gallons of water waiting for the water to get hot, getting dressed and going to the front desk after a 4th time I think anyone would be upset. They need to inform their guests that there will NOT be hot water and not use the excuse that the hot water system is broken. This Hotel owner does not care about their guests and the front desk person is a liar...
