We were in San Gil in June '14 and we stayed one night in another hotel in San Gil and then were delighted to have moved to hotel Santa Catalina. It is a very new hotel in a beautiful spot against the backdrop of mountains and centrally located within almost walking distance of downtown San Gil. (less than 5 min./$2.00 taxi to town) The price is very good, the food is delicious and the kind service makes one feel at home. The rooms are nice and clean and comfortable. As most hotels in San Gil no air-conditioning, but with open windows and ventilator it's the same (as if) and since San Gil barely even knows the concept of crime, that's o.k. to do. Connection with activities operators is excellent as well. Great place for extreme sport enthusiasts and nature lovers. I'm both and haven't seen enough yet. You feel very safe and thus very relaxed. I was there 4 years ago and have seen development in 4 years. I'm returning in October with a group of adventurous youngsters. Overall you get your...
Read moreWe spent 5 days here and it was a very nice stay. The hotel was relaxing and quiet, but a bit far from the town. A taxi takes you there in 5 mins, or you can also walk there in about 15 mins. The road is not that nice, but it's a short way. We didn't have any problem there. The breakfast was pretty good, and the restaurant had also very good options for lunch and dinner, in case you don't want to go 'downtown' to eat. I can recommend the 'cazuela de mariscos'. The meat dishes were also delicious. We always had hot water and the best was the service!!! All employees and people around were incredibly friendly and helpful. That's what made the most of our stay. I speak Spanish, so that helps a lot, but if you don't, they'll still do everything they can, to give you a good service.
Something to improve would be the rooms, they could be a bit more modern, according to the rest of the hotel. The water in the jacuzzi was not warm. But that's it. All in all, I can really...
Read moreSuch nice people, the lady who welcomed me was so nice and she gave me a huge big hug when I left. That goes a long way when you stay at a hotel. The reception area of the hotel is fine but they really need to spray something to avoid mosquitos since the area is all outdoor and exposed. They have a great table tennis table if you have time to play:)||||The room itself was quite basic in my opinion, the bed was a little hard, the bathroom was quite simple, the sink was small and the hot water in the shower kept changing temperature from cold to very hot. The room could have been cleaned slightly better too, the windows for example and some dust/dirt in between the window frames. Maybe I'm too fussy!||||For the price I paid, overall it was good value and the service was good.||||Also check out my review for Expediciones Adrenalinas - VERY BAD agency, don't use them.||||Feel free to send me a message if you need...
