2025 was our third visit in 6 years to Playa Flamingo and while the area has changed so much it’s still beautiful and we’ll keep coming back. The waves get rough and no life guards on the beaches here, so be prepared for your little ones. You can rent a tent and chairs from the locals (prices have doubled for these things since our first visit) and you can order food from Coco Loco, grab a bite to eat from 5 O’Clock Somewhere in Margaritaville or grab empanadas from locals walking the beach. When we were here in 2022 there was a local with a tent and grill set up on the beach and he made the most amazing chicken & rice in a pineapple, we were looking forward to that this trip but we didn’t see him. This area is laid back but you can find things to do if that’s what you’re looking for. We’ve gone on a catamaran, rented a jet ski in the area, took tours from here (jungle river tour to see monkeys and crocodiles, rainforest tour, hot springs, ATV). Plenty to do and places to eat are walking distance. Some of the most beautiful sunsets are seen here

Playa Flamingo is our favorite beach in Costa Rica! The pristine stretch of white sand is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy playing in the waves all day until the sunset lights up the sky. You can grab a snack at Coco Loco or there are some mellow beach vendors that will serve you snacks in the sand. The Margaritaville Resort is the main hotel in the area, or you can stay in one of the many Airbnb vacation rentals in the area. The Palms is a high end beachfront rental community, and Villas Flamingo is much more affordable. This is a nice little beach with free parking and some trees to provide some shade from the sun. It’s much easier to get to than Playa Conchal. Vendors are also present to offer chairs, tents, massages, trinkets, etc. Bring your own chairs if you have them and nab you a spot under the trees for some shade. If you are running late, the vendors will set up a spot for you. Also, an ice chest full of waters and adult beverages will allow you to make this a very nice all-day beach day without getting overheated. The only reason I give this a 4 star rating over a 5 is that there are no bathrooms. Overall it is a nice beach and made for a very relaxing and enjoyable day.
