Summary: This is a BEST WESTERN all-inclusive. Not a private hotel chain, not a Ritz Carlton, not even a Marriot. As such you get what you expect. Rooms: Minimalistic rooms, cheap mattresses, mold in the air conditioner and walls with a musty smell. Hallways can be noisy but earplugs helped. Reccomend the garden view rooms, much quite than having to listen to the nightlife of the music late at night. Atmosphere: Clearly where locals go to vacation. Not many people I saw from elsewhere. Property was clean and well protected. Felt very safe although all times. Food: Again, Best western quality. But honestly was not horrible and there was a large variety. I stayed away from the cold fish, yogurt etc as they were out for hours without being chilled. The snacks available aren't much more than nacho chips, cheese, chicken nuggets/frozen pizza. Drink: plentiful and quite good for the most part. Water, even from the tap, is drinkable. Pools: multiple areas to lounge. Pool are clean and refreshing. Go out early though to make sure you claim a chair in the shade or else it gets hard to find one in the afternoon. Staff: Friendly, my spanish isn't the best but they helped a lot. Most spoke English. Check in: DO NOT get there before 3. They will give you a temporary wrist band, you can go have drinks etc but you will not have access to your room. At 3 a large line forms for you to get your room assignment. The line took 30min to get through, not the most pleasant experience. Check out: ironically 15 seconds. Gave room number and our room keys back and that was it. Location: Right on the beach of Jaco on the end. Not terrible by any means. Easy walk on to beach access. Again, you get a Best Western experience. It's a great way to "cheap out". We felt safe, the food and drinks were good. But it all may not be worth it, especially if you're looking for quality.

I stayed here for 4 days and three nights in April. Miss Best Western was a very nice resort. We chose this hotel because it's location was on the beach. Although it's not a sand beach, It's more of dirt beach, but it's nice. The location made it simple for us to walk around town in Jaco as well as take a quick trip to Tarcoles and to Los suenos areas with a short inexpensive taxi ride. The front desk was great and very accommodating to our early arrival and any of our needs. They serve three meals in a dining area which is covered outdoors. I enjoy the food. It's buffet style, eggs in the morning can be cooked to order. I have no complaints. There is nothing fantastically over the top. Not too much diversity, but for the value, it's great. They have snack areas by the pool bar that's Rather lacking appeal for me. The bars themselves. I personally had no problems getting service and getting drinks within a reasonable amount of time. Regardless, how many people were being served. The pools can get crowded, there were a lot of locals, mostly couples and families which was nice to see. The water does get very warm as the day goes on. It almost feels cooler to jump in and get out of the pool, than to stay in the pool as the day goes on. Our room was kind of basic. But which is fine. The housekeepers did a fantastic job, always providing me with what I needed. We didn't spend much time in the room. We spent more time walking around The resort. I was always amazed when the macaws would fly by and they frequently did. My overall experience was pleasant. This Best Western met my expectations in every way possible. I really would like to come back here again.

We checked in and were not impressed. First, we arrived a little early, but the front desk staff would not give us a room until exactly 3pm. Then, the "pool view" room we paid extra for turns out to be a building wall view. I did not feel comfortable asking for a different room because the front desk staff seemed rude and disinterested in providing any assistance. Just getting pool towels from them was difficult. The rooms are extremely dated. There is no tub, only a shower and no bathroom counter. There was sand in our sheets, and you could clearly see a footprint, so I question whether they changed the bedding before we checked in. But again, I did not want to deal with the front desk staff, and I was exhausted, so I just tried to brush it all off. The whole property, with the exception of the pools, looks run down. The food selection and quality are not the best. I would avoid the "snacks" as they appear and taste like they have been sitting there for days. The beach area by the hotel is adequate. There are a decent amount of cigarette buds and trash. The pool/beach lounge chairs are limited, and many are in poor repair. With the exception of the front desk staff, the rest of the employees provided good service. Overall, I am very disappointed. My recommendation is to book a room somewhere else, if you can afford it.

I do not recommend this place! I cannot wrap my head around all of the positive reviews. They are disgustingly misleading! The only positive thing I’ll say is that staff were friendly EXCEPT the concierge, Luriel Castillo. He was unaccommodating and clearly couldn’t care less about the inconveniences guests experience. Had a full and twin size bed for two grown adults! We literally had to beg to receive a room with a king bed in it after being turned down by Luriel repeatedly then asking for a manager. Mattress is hard. Room smelled of and visibly had mold on the walls/ceiling. Shower head had rust/calcium buildup. Hot water ran out. No washcloths provided. Door had to be opened with excessive force due to extreme swelling. Room key was repeatedly deactivated. Food/drinks were terrible for every meal time. The snacks had bugs all over them. Birds flew around eating food from the buffet and people’s plates. There’s no microwave/fridge in the room. It’s beachfront but the beach remained empty always because it’s completely rocky and uncomfortable to walk on. There was a dead crab in the pool. They ran out of parking spots daily. The neighborhood is not a tourist spot at all. I am beyond disappointed in Gate 1 for using this “resort.” Never again! Ever!

The service here is amazing! Rooms are just okay. We had to get new room keys multiple times per day, as they kept not working. Elevators kept shutting down for maintenance, and we were on the 5th floor, so it was slightly inconvenient. The food is buffet-style and incredible. Smoothies were a hit! The pools are fun. Amazing views of the beach and the mountains. Despite a few things, our family had an amazing stay here. Thank you to the generous staff for making that so.
