Arenal Volcano Park — Attraction in La Fortuna

This park reminds me a bit of a national park. Although you can take a guided tour, we opted for a self-guided experience instead so we could go at our own pace. The trails are easy to follow, and are not overly established so that it still retains the feel of being in a rustic environment. Our guide (apologies for not remembering his name) was very knowledgeable and engaging. He explained about the 1968 eruption and, as we walked, he pointed out information about the plants we saw as well. He was great at getting the group interacting. We had a fantastic experience zip lining over stunning rainforest and waterfalls. We chose the 12-cable route, which I highly recommend for both the views and the adventure.
