Do not come here, it’s a glorified Zoo.
Unlike many ecological parks in Costa Rica, this one has its frogs, snakes other reptiles in locked boxes that look grim and unkept - mould growing in some of them, many without water. Amphibians with no water, JFC!
The butterfly area was dead and malnourished. I saw more dead butterflies than alive.
The crocodiles are kept in small areas, unable to roam and hunt. The lady who worked there told me they feed it chicken once a month when really a crocodile requires a mixed-meat diet. She threw stones in there to get it to jump out. Very, very not cool.
In one area, one of the enclosed Caymans managed to literally jump into another Cayman’s area and they had a standoff. The girl taking us around looked clueless as what to do. They could kill one another or even hurt someone if they could easily escape like that. They hurried us away from that, likely to avoid bad PR or someone getting hurt.
Costa Rica is full of rich wildlife. All of these creatures can and SHOULD be seen in their natural habitats, not an enclosure like this.
Do yourself a favour and go to the National Parks too see Crocodiles or a night walk in a real ecological area where you can see frogs and other animals in their natural environment.
It’s not as if these creatures are hard to find as Costa Rica is rich in life and it’s likely WHY you’re here in the first place? Don’t...
Read moreArenal national is a beautiful park to visit. This park does get a bit crowded in the morning so if you like less of a crowed go a tad later like 2 or so. I had a guide that i paid a bit extra for, but its very worth it having a guide. He carries a really nice telescope with him and he can take beautiful close up pictures through it on your phone too. They are also very knowledgable and know where animals live along the trail in the park so they spot them very quick and they can tell you about the animal. It is actually crazy how they can spot so many animals. I saw two eyelash vipors on this trail along with 2 family of monkies, a trantuala, so many exotic birds, some animals ive never heard of and a sleeping sloth sleeping high up into the canopy. This park has many swinging bridges. It helps you see what it feels like to be an animal (monkey for example) living high up in the canopy. I really enjoyed the hike. Although the trail is slightly hilly it is accommodating for people in...
Read moreI’m usually not a big fan of guided tours, so I started out my visit as a self guided visit....which was okay for the butterfly garden and the crocodiles, but when I came to the “focus “ of my journey (I’m a glass artist whose specialties are frog beads), i was kind of staring at the glass enclosures, notnuite knowing where to look. Raul was a godsend, he opened the doors to the enclosures and wiped away the condensation, he pointed out the frogs in the most unexpected places....and even showed me frogs “in the wild” which I would have never found. He also showed me the stingless bees and the hiding places of some of the snakes. This place is wonderful - but spend the extra money for one of their incredibly knowledgeable guides..You would really rob yourself of the experience. Thanks also to Allen at the reception desk,...
