Beautiful secluded beach. We were told it was nude-friendly although there weren’t any completely naked people here when we went. A bit of a hike to get there, so make sure you have comfortable hiking shoes, especially for the last part of the hike to the beach. From the sign in the picture, you can drive down a little farther (an SUV or vehicle with 4-wheel drive is recommended). There is a point on the trail where you can’t drive any farther. We did see a couple on a motorbike with wheels with good tread on them make it all the way to the point where the steep hike to the beach starts, but most people hike on foot the whole way. The hiking trail splits, so make sure you make a right to go to La Macha beach. Before going down the steep trail, there is a pathway on the left that has a nice overlook of the ocean. We accidentally went that way before going down the trail to the beach. You know you’re on the right trail when we see the ropes that help you get down to the beach. This part of the trail is VERY steep (flip flops not recommended). I was wearing Chacos the whole hike. Once you get down to the beach, enjoy the peace and calm. No vendors here. Every group we saw kept to themselves. If you want a quiet and secluded beach and don’t mind the hike to get there, this beach is definitely worth the trip. Make sure you have enough energy to climb back up the trail as it is pretty much all uphill. I would recommend packing at least water and a few snacks on your trip to and...
Read moreMy favourite beach i found in Quepos/Manuel Antonio. Some tips below. the beach is not accessible by car, motorbike or bike. Just park them, put on a pair of half decent walking shoes/trainers and be prepared for a challenging steep walk for about 20 minutes. Don't wear flip flops if you can at all as your feet will be in bits. At the hotel Bongo there is a sign for the beach. Although I was on foot, i would suggest you leave a car here if you are driving. I would strongly advise no tourist drive further than this. The walk from there is only about 15 minutes. You will come to the end of the dirt road and you will be able to see the ocean. From there you want to look to your right and then cross over and down towards the beach. You enter it from the right side. The path here is steep going down and is the only difficult part ( about 3-5 minutes). Be careful here with your footing and the trees. I had a handful of splinters from one tree so look before you grab on to any for stability!
Now you've arrived! Its a small beach so the 3 times i visited it had very few people. Be aware it is a clothing optional beach as well so feel free to liberate yourself. I found that when I was there there were 4 of us clothing free and 3 with clothes. Both work and its fun to try this out in a secluded and safe space ( and beautiful!).
As the beach is a little trek i would suggest you bring some water and food snacks if you want to...
Read moreThis was beautiful and definitely feels really remote. As others have said, you should keep driving past the sign on the left road (if you have 4-wheel drive!) for about 5-10 minutes until you reach the sign that says no more cars. Then, you have a hike that's a bit less than half a mile down to the beach. The last portion of the hike was muddier and steeper than expected, but we were both wearing tennis shoes so we took our time and were fine. My husband was even wearing our toddler in a carrier and again, we went slowly, but were fine.
The hike back up was all uphill and obviously more difficult, so make sure to bring water and maybe even snacks. You should also consider what time you go because our hike back up seemed a lot hotter than the way down. There is plenty of shade but a few sunny patches where you get hot fast.
The beach itself is amazing. We went in the morning and there were about five other people there over the course of the hour we stayed. There were lots of little crabs running around and warm, gentle surf. Definitely worth the trouble...
