I like to share an overdue kindness and helpfulness story of the gate keeper at La Luna, whom I didn't get a name of. We dinned at La Luna on the late afternoon of July 12, 2024. We were greeted by a gatekeeper at the gate. He called up to the restaurant and arranged for a golf cart to take us to the restaurant. We bumped into him the next day as we're waiting for a bus to town, at the bus stop right next to the restaurant. He greeted us buenos dias and asked if we were waiting to go up the restaurant. We said no and he politely waved goodbye to us and went to work. To cut the story short, we took a bus from town back to our hotel only to realize that I left my wife's phone on the bus. So we decided to wait for the same bus at the stop opposite to where we got off, the same stop that we got on in the morning, hoping to find the phone. It was at this time that my favourite gatekeeper got off work. He was a little surprised to see us (not that we are stalking anyone), looking lost and confused, as you guessed we don't speak a word of Spanish. He asked if he could be of help, in English. We told him what happened. He then said he would wait for the next bus with us and ask the driver if anyone turned in a phone. The next bus arrived about 10 minutes later and it wasn't the same bus we rode as I recognized the driver. He briefly interacted with the driver and the bus left. He then said to me he would wait with me until the bus we rode in came. I told me that he didn't need to do this. He turned to me and said that he had to because otherwise I wouldn't be able to communicate to the driver. I wax so touched by his kindness as we barely acquainted with each other. After about another 30 minutes or so, a bus came. This was it. He talked to the driver and the driver asked us to describe the phone, colour of the case and made, etc. Then the bus driver reached to a pouch he carried and showed us a phone It was indeed the wife's phone. He handed the phone to us and before we even got a chance to say thank you,, the guy, disappeared into the bus and the bus drove away. Of course, this is a good ending for us but we feel that we owe the gate keeper a thank you at the least. We could have shown more of our appreciation and that's why I am writing this. Gracias Costa...
Read moreMy husband and I dined frequently at La Luna during our recent stay at Gaia Hotel. We ate breakfast each morning during our stay, ate lunch/midday meal twice, and dinner three times.
First, the service is top notch. Every single server was so helpful and kind. While I speak a little bit of Spanish, my husband does not but it did not matter - all servers we encountered were bilingual. All we had to do was ask and our request was met.
Second, the view is amazing. You have a panoramic view of the area and often see an array of birds flying by. One morning a group of macaws flew by, another day it was a lone toucan. Ceiling fans keep the air flowing so even on hot days you are comfortable while you dine.
The food was very good - all very fresh and prepared well. We live in an area known for good food and we were impressed with each dish. We did not find the prices unbelievable (as noted in some reviews) but again, we live in an area where good food does cost more. I also found the portions to be quite generous - higher end cuisine but without the teeny tiny portions.
I kept forgetting to take photos during our meals (too busy eating!) but high points were the calamari salad with an incredible sauce, a Costa Rican stew which was so feeling and homey, and a Costa...
Read moreMy husband left a 2 star review and he was being extremely kind. Service and food was really bad not to mention the ambiance was nothing special at all. We had the saltiest food ever which was mentioned to our server. He did nothing about it. When it came time for the check he just placed it on the table and rushed to the next table. No apology whatsoever. Simply rude !!! Plenty of other good restaurants in the area. Respond to the owner- first of all, our waiter was a male and not a female. We had never been approached by a female at anytime during our dining experience. Second of all when asked the waiter what other option is there for the dish, It was HE that suggested that the chef can also make it in tomato sauce. We did not know of this option, but the waiter suggested it. Regardless, food should still be tasty and not feel like you just opened a can of tomato sauce and added salt to it. No wonder your server never came back with an apology after we had told him the food was extremely salty. I see your comment and I understand why your servers are who they are. You take no responsibility and you just find lame excuses. Shame on you !!!! BTW - reading other reviews we are not the only ones with this comment....
