When we wanted to visit a winery to taste their wine, we were recommended by both the hostess and the taxi driver to visit Bire Winery.
After walking up the slopes from Lumbarda, it was good to sit down on the cozy patio here. We ordered a tasting of 4 wines, rosé wine, white wine, red wine and dessert wine. We also got a tasty lunch dish with food that suited the individual wine.
All four wines held a high standard, which together with the food made the individual wine shine even more. The white wine, based on the grape GRK (which is unique to the Lumbarda area), was the wine which in particular stood out with its good quality. So we ended up buying some bottles that we take home to Norway. In relation to Norwegian prices, I have to say that we made a bargain purchase by buying it directly from the manufacturer.
We also received very good service and information. To each wine we received a general information, but as we began to ask questions the hosts took the time to respond to this in a good way. On the whole, the experience was very good and we can recommend everyone to visit Bire Winery for a...
Read moreBire Winery, in Lumbarda, is a family owned winery. One son was presenting/serving the tastings, outside on the terraces, another son working inside in the bar area, and some of the items on the available tasty snack plate were homemade by their mom. Be sure to get the snack plate.
I was on foot, coming from the water taxi between Korčula, and had limited time, so unfortunately could only go to one winery in the area. I was very glad I went to Bire. I enjoyed the whole experience, and ending up buying a bottle of all three of the wines 🍷 I tasted (Rose, Grk & Plavac), which were reasonably priced.
Do note they only take cash. I was a few € short, after digging through my pockets & wallet, and they graciously said “no problem, don’t worry...
Read moreWe had a really nice time today, even visiting the winery with our six-month-old baby. The staff were very friendly and one of the brothers ( JOSIP) took the time to explain many details about the wine, which we really appreciated. This time we couldn’t stay long because we were with the baby, but everything was great. Just a small note for future visitors: they accept cash only . There are many narrow one-way streets—so just make sure to find the right street to get there. They open from 2 p.m. and while you don’t need a reservation, it’s a good idea to call ahead because it got quite busy while we were there. Everything was really good and we even bought a bottle of their white wine...
