Popić Winery — Attraction in Općina Lumbarda

My absolute favourite wines on the island and perhaps even in general!

My partner and I did quite a few wine tastings during our stay on Korcula. And trust me when I say that all of them are just absolutely amazing, the Popic wines just hit different though!

We called ahead to see if it was crowded and popped in later on the day. We had a nice table overlooking the fields and the church in the distance. We ordered a tasting menu along with a beautiful platter of delicious cheeses, meats, olives and other treats. The GRK, Plavac Mali and Rose wines are all really really good. And the newest addition to the line-up, the Posip, is a very welcome one at that!

Due to a miscommunication I had to go to the ATM twice. But it's close by and I didn't want to leave without two boxes of fantastic wine.. so definitely worth it! And on top of that, the host was just far to kind and gave us some extra glasses of wine, and even a bottle of Posip as a conselation for our trouble!

Visiting Advice Only : We decided we would like to visit here and hike over from Korcula and back. Approximately a 12km walk.

Beforehand we let Popic Winery know we would be arriving.

We set off which is 1hr 15min walk one way to the winery.

Upon arrival although there was plenty space and tables available we were told that they were too busy as expecting a party to arrive so they could not accommodate us.

A bit annoyed as this is a big part of one day on our holiday here AND we had walked for over an hour just to get to this place only.

Advice #1 is.... Make sure you call in advance and I would recommend you get the name of the person who gives you confirmation.

Three stars as looks nice inside but obviously their hospitality isn't quite up to scratch.

We visited a different winery which had a much better view and was more friendly and welcoming with a fantastic lunch provided !!!!

This made me reflect and think that the Popic Wine tasting experience and their setting could be overrated a little.

Advice #2 is.... There are other equally as good if not better Winery's out there with amazing tasting and lunch / snack options with...

Located on the hills of Lumbarda, it's a 20-25 minutes walk from Lumbarda centre. Once you arrive you enter an unassuming courtyard where you are greeted by the owner. A free taste of their GRK wine is offered but you need to do a wine tasting to be able to benefit from a seated place with beautiful sea views and the surroundings. The wine tasting comprises three wines: the white GRK, a rosé and a red. It's possible to have platters of food to accompany the wine tasting. We just went for the wine tasting and that cost us 8€ per person. We wanted to buy a few bottles to take back to our apartment but unfortunately like most of Croatia, it's cash only. The wine isn't cheap (we live in Bordeaux) but if you go there at 6PM and have some food and wine you will not be disappointed. It is best to reserve a table in advance. If you do reserve a table, ask for one in front. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and I look forward to going back for another...
