Visiting Disco Ayala in Trinidad, Cuba, on a Friday night was an unforgettable experience. As I made my way through the cobblestone streets of the historic city, the anticipation grew with each step. When I finally arrived at the entrance, it felt like stepping into another world. The disco is uniquely situated inside a natural cave, and the moment I descended into the cavernous space, I was struck by the surreal ambiance.
The atmosphere inside was electric. The combination of pulsating lights reflecting off the stalactites and the rhythmic beats echoing through the cave created an almost otherworldly vibe. People from all over the world were dancing and mingling, sharing the same sense of awe and excitement. It was incredible to see how the natural formations of the cave blended seamlessly with the modern lighting and sound system, creating an experience unlike any other nightclub I’ve been to.
The energy was contagious, and I found myself dancing non-stop, completely immersed in the moment. Every corner of the cave had its own unique charm, from the bar area nestled among the rocks to the dance floor that seemed to pulse with life. Disco Ayala wasn’t just a nightclub; it was a sensory adventure that left me amazed and eager to return. That Friday night in the cave was one of the highlights of my trip to Trinidad, and it's a memory I'll...
Read moreI hit up “La Cueva” with other friends a few weekends ago. The steep walk straight up from the Plaza Mayor is badly lit and treacherous with pebbles and dirt along the way. Be careful if you’re wearing high heels! Entrepreneurs have set up drink stands along the way and you’re free to enter the disco with said drinks (impossible to do so in the US or Europe!) so buy some strong 1 CUC canchánaras or daiquiris. I advise getting there early: we arrived at 10:30pm and there was only a small queue but when we left a little over an hour later the queue was CRAZY long. It’s 5 CUC pp entry and that included a drink. A real fun mix of Reggaeton, salsa, samba and Western pop music and top 40 hits (Bruno Mars etc). It gets very crowded inside and AC seems to be lacking so keep that in mind. There’s also smoking (yuck) allowed inside but somehow with how cavernous the cave is you don’t notice it much (but may get worse later...
Read moreCAVE RAVE! This place was a lot of fun. It's kind of a trek to get out here, and the line was loooong. Maybe coming during off-season would be a little better in that regard. But we enjoyed a beer and some cuban cigs while waiting, as there are street vendors present to keep you buzzed.
That being said, once you get inside, it's kind of magical. The walls of the cave are lit by colorful flood lamps. There's a dance floor, a seating area, a partially exposed outdoor area. Lots of tiny nooks and crannies, as the overall space of the club is actually quite small. Drinks were pricey, but it's a club so that was no surprise. Music is latino/reggaeton and top 40 mix, with some hip hop sprinkled in.
My only cautionary tale is that the floors are kind of slippery. My friend slipped and hurt his tailbone, which was unfortunate since we were horseback riding the next day. We had a lot of fun here, it's...
