I can't say enough about this place, it was WONDERFUL! We were on a 10 day cruise w/Dominican Republic being our last port. Prior to our cruise I had been online looking at the reviews and pictures, and as amazing as it looked it was even better in person! I took hundreds of pictures which I'll post as I go through them, but I couldn't wait to add my rave review to all of the others here! We chose to see the monkeys, and although it was worth every penny, I was somewhat disappointed not to have more time with them. The monkeys experience is about 20 minutes and you'll need to reserve a time so be sure to stop by there before anything else. A guide will lead you in (about 15-20 people per time slot) and after a short discussion, you'll be asked to sit as the monkeys climb ALL OVER YOU (which I loved!) They are squirrel monkeys so they're tiny and absolutely adorable, but they will pee & poop on you so beware. You'll get a minute to hold a bowl of fruit as the guide takes pictures of you (you can purchase the pictures but you are also allowed to use your own cameras when the guide says it's ok) We were told to remove any earrings and sunglasses when we booked the time slot, but it wasn't until we were walking in that our guide told us to remove any visible Band-Aids. I happened to have a bandaid on my leg and I removed it but since I had nowhere to put it, I held it in my fist as we walked in.. within seconds I had a monkey prying my fist open and swiping the bandaid which he then tried to eat, so please listen to the guide! The other attraction that wasn't free was the surf "pool". We didn't try that but it looked like those who did were having a great time. The lazy river was incredible and although, when it ends, you will need to wait on line to go around again, the line was either very short or at times non-existent (We were the only cruise ship there and if that's the norm, you shouldn't have any issues with lines). We didn't expect the drink prices.. although they weren't any worse than at home..but since we had drink packages on the cruise it was just a slight shock having to pay $16 for a piña colada. However, as I type this I have to admit that even if the drinks were twice as expensive, it was well worth it to just indulge in the whole experience. I left there thinking how unfair that we can't go back unless we come back on another cruise.. but if it were any other way then Taino Bay wouldn't be what it is! Posting a few random pics but I have videos that I'll go through and share. Hopefully you're reading these reviews because you're going to be there.. lucky you!

WOW! This Cruise Port is an exceptional stop on a Caribbean cruise, offering a delightful mix of activities, shopping, and dining. The duty-free shopping is a highlight, with an array of stores offering everything from local crafts to high-end products, all at great prices. The dining experience here is equally impressive, featuring a range of restaurants that cater to all tastes. The leisure activities are what set Taino Bay apart. The pool area, buzzing with music from a lively DJ, is the perfect spot to soak up the sun. For a more relaxing experience, the lazy river offers a serene float, surrounded by picturesque views. Hammocks strung over the water provide a unique and peaceful retreat, ideal for enjoying the gentle sea breeze. Wildlife enthusiasts will love the parrot displays and the interactive experiences at Monkey Island, which are not only entertaining but educational. In conclusion, Taino Bay Cruise Port is a comprehensive destination that brilliantly combines shopping, dining, relaxation, and wildlife interaction. It's an unforgettable stop on any Caribbean cruise, and I highly recommend it for a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

Beautiful newly developed Cruise port in Puerta Plata Dominican Republic, that offers a safe way for cruise passengers to enjoy a piece of the beauty that this carribean island has to share. There are shops, a free pool area, beautiful landscaping all in walking distance for the cruise ship's gangway. No hassling or competition of sales from locals who have previously made it intimidating for many. If you decide to venture out of the very secured area, you are capable to and the local government has it set up with posted multilingual officers, who will take a moment to advice the "safe" areas, assist with busy traffic intersections etc. The Dominican Republic has a lot of beauty and just like anywhere else, friendly people willing to share their culture. These steps taken to help make tourism a positive experience will most definitely provide a much needed economic boost to this country in the long run.

Beautiful place. It was nicely done. However, this is not the real Dominican. If you want to experience the real culture, get out of the Port and go explore. If excursions aren't your thing, this is a cute place to chill for a few hours. Entry is free to use pools and float in river. Drinks are costly, but average for a tourism sight. Lots of shopping, lazy river to float down, restaurants and bars, some entertainment by the locals employed there, large pools bumping music with swim up bars with loungers and cabanas(first come, first serve). There are lots of photo opportunities with man built sculptures. Exotic birds hang out in designated areas to take a selfie with as well. The majority of your money spent at this establishment goes to the cruise lines. I personally like to spend my money with the locals. Tourism is how a large percentage of the locals earn money. #sustainabletourism

Considering the surrounding area Taino Bay is a tropical paradise for cruise ship passengers. There are several restaurants and many many shops with everything from trinkets to tobacco. Duty free. It is touristy and a bit pricy but fairly well done. Construction standards do seem lax with many structures built of wood. The staff was friendly albeit service was a little slow and most of the toilets were out of order. A pool and beach area is also provided although we did not go. We did sit adjacent. The water in the harbor had lots of floating debris and it is piled up on the shore area around the harbor. The beach and pool as well other tourist area in Tahino appears to be well cleaned and somewhat maintained. I would return here if I come in on a cruise ship. Not sure if it’s accessible from outside of the port area. UrbanCowgill February 2024

This is probably one of the best and unique cruise ports we've been to. As you exit the cruise ship you walk through the duty free shop and then through rows of newly built shops. They have a free resort style pool and lazy river, just bring your own towels. They have a swim up bar and the entire area has a few different food options and bars. Get free samples of rum, etc in the duty free shop before you venture out and buy something. Everyone was friendly and we didn't really get the normal "buy, buy, buy" pressure like a lot of ports. You could spend your entire day here and be satisfied. All of this is before you even hit the transportation area heading into town. Very impressive. Only downside is they are clearly trying to keep everyone's money in that area and not for the local businesses outside of the Bay.
