9th August 2024. Summer Season at this restaurant means Gulf States Citizens’ Season. You pay you get in. Blacks not allowed. Africans are not people. Cash is king.

This was my 2nd visit to the place and my family’s 4th. I am a British citizen, originally from Sudan, I have family who come to Cairo to visit me from England and the USA.

My experience last night:

Out of respect I gave my name and sat down in the waiting area waiting for a table for 2, for myself and my daughter. Her celebratory trip to Cairo going to University. She was really looking forward to it, especially that at the waiting area one could her all the music and the upstairs atmosphere.

In hindsight, my biggest mistake was I spoke in Arabic with a Sudanese/Egyptian accent. The second blunder is that I had respect for the restaurant and its staff, I spoke to them rather than paid them, so straight away this guy is Sudani and we could bully him.

The guy taking a list of the names allowed everyone upstairs except for myself and my daughter, the Khaliji’s put a bunch of cash to his palm and suddenly they are the next name on the list. They savvy old Egyptian customer would sneak in behind the group (family) of khalijis, minutes later all his family members would get up and demand to join their father/son/brother upstairs, who is allegedly waiting for them at their table.

A whole hour passed and I have seen enough, I asked very calmly to speak to the manager, and it was like asking for gold dust. Suddenly, there was no manager to be seen, or better still every body is the manager!

None of the so-called managers wanted to give out their names! Except, my favourite guy on my way out, he was so inventive, I was impressed, his name was so unusual and he seemed so honest, his name was “Mohammed “ and with no surname and of course he had no father, no family name and there was no other Mohammed except him in the restaurant, so why would I need his surname, he asked.

The beauty is that when I spoke to him in his language and accent, he walked away whilst I was talking to him, saying to me wait and we will call your name.

I have had enough and I left with my daughter disappointed and bemused at the level of disrespect and vulgar attitude these people had.

What a superb restaurant!!!
