Authentic Cairo Street Food in the Heart of Historic Islamic Cairo
If you’re looking for a true taste of Egyptian street food, Baba Abdo is a must-visit. Located right next to Bab al-Futuh, this local gem serves some of the best liver, kofta, and sogo’ sandwiches in Cairo.
What I loved: • 🔥 Delicious, flavorful food – especially the spicy potatoes, Alexandrian liver, and kofta sandwiches. • 💰 Very affordable – You can fill up with just a few sandwiches (4–8 EGP each). • 🕰️ Open 24/7 – Great spot for a late-night bite. • 🌇 Historic location – The view of the old city wall at night adds a unique atmosphere. • 👨🍳 Fast and friendly service, even when it’s crowded.
Things to keep in mind: • 🚽 Restroom is shared with a nearby café and not the cleanest—bring your own sanitizer. • 🍖 Some dishes can be a bit oily or salty for some tastes. • 💸 the price is fair enough
Overall, Baba Abdo is a classic spot where flavor, culture, and local life collide. It’s not fine dining, but it’s an unforgettable Cairo food experience. Highly recommended for adventurous food lovers and street food fans!

Read moreAmazing street food eatery, just in front of the Northern Gate of Old Cairo (Bab al-Futuh). Tasted some beef prepared according to a traditional recipe from Alexandria, wraped in Cairean style bread. Then tasted beef shawerma prepared in Cairean style, wraped in a Sirian type of bread. Unique, distinctive taste, full of attitude. The salad was a bit too salty to me. Some lazy cats were sleeping on an abandoned car next to our table - just to highlight the Oriental vibe of the place. The eatery shares a dirty bathroom with a next door cafe. There was no soap available when I went there to wash my hands, so I just flushed them with some tap water. However, amazing taste, flavors...
