Meyazia 27 Victory Square is a traffic circle and historic landmark in the incredible neighborhood of ‘Arat Kilo’. Miazia 27 in Ethiopian Calendar (which is equivalent to May 5th) represents both the day when Addis Ababa fell to Italy in 1936 and was liberated in 1941. The monument at the center of this Square honors the patriots’ fight against fascist Italian invaders, and the victory gained. The monument consists of an obelisk and a relief figure. The obelisk, topped by a Lion of Judah, stands at the center while the relief figure, of Emperor Haile Selassie holding the national flag, encircled the oblisk.
