After hearing great things about Meskott, the new additions to the Addis dining experience, we went for dinner:
Restaurant:
Amazing location (very un assuming from the outside) with beautifully finished interior and amenities. Relaxing in great space both indoor and outdoors.
Loved the look and feel instantly
Staff:
Bar staff efficient with good skills of making cocktails and other drinks as requested. Great selections of drinks.
Waiting staff: Some training has been given here but perhaps not yet to the standard the restaurant aspires to or / and followed through. Once we sat down to dinner it went a bit pear shaped.
Didn’t like: Lovely ideal to try and explain the origin of the wine etc to customers ( but perhaps ask if customer’s wish) as majority would know about the local wine. If there was an extensive national and international wine list or choice yes but not when it is local:)
Alternately have a Sommelier who knows exactly how to create drama.
Best to have few well trained and efficient staff than the large numbers milling about not sure who has ordered what as a different order was delivered to our table which we had to retune.
Food;
Disappointing as what we ordered and was delivered to the table was a completely different cut of meat. Don’t know why sometimes restaurants try to pass on certain food as other. Customers are cleaver and bright people ….
When we asked the waiter about the cut of mean, he went to get his boss who knew exactly what was done and is attempt at apologising was to say cooking the cut of meat we ordered was difficult etc therefore, they used a different cut. He was oblivious to the fact that this is what they should have told us when we ordered to give us a choice to change our order if we wanted to.
Putting this down to the learning stage for the restaurant.
We will visit again and order the same to see if the feedback had made...
Read moreMy grand experience at Meskott Restaurant, From the moment I had entered the premise, I had a feeling that I was in for a very classy evening. The atmosphere in the restaurant is calming, soothing and intriguing I might say. It has a way of creating this hush hush romantic vibe that I am sure every couple would love to jump on. I was seated in the garden area of the restaurant, which had this open and inviting vibe to it. I was impressed with the pieces on the table like the lamps and lighting. When it came down to ordering the food, everything seemed very delicious and I had trouble deciding on one meal. But in the end, I went for the BBQ ribs. The food took a little longer than I expected, but it was worth the wait I tell you. It came beautifully plated and had enough portion for one person which I liked because most grand restaurants usually have not more than three spoons of food on their plates. Each bite of the food was a burst of flavor on my taste buds. The mixture of the creamy mashed potato along with the spicy ribs was a great combination. I couldn't put my knife and fork down. After finishing up the main course, I was interested to know if their deserts were as good as their main courses. I ordered a chocolate flambé. It came with alcohol which was poured on the cake, then lit on fire. It tasted really good, but it becomes too bitter after eating a few spoonful's. I also thought it was a bit dry and sticky. The waiters were really respectful and give you a welcoming vibe. All in all, this new place will surely be one of the top places to go to in the city, for people looking for a wonderful experience in...
Read moreAfter hearing about it for a while, I finally went to Meskott for lunch with friends.
It has a few bits to it: a raised floor to the left, a bar area immediately in front of you, and another dining area to the right as you walk in. We went straight through to the ‘garden area’ which is past the bar area. The interior is fresh and modern - it looks really good.
For lunch we ordered three very different things: shiro, chicken teriyaki and a burger! That shows the range of things they have on the menu.
I had the burger. The meat, coleslaw and fries were good. The bread was a bit dry for my taste - I would have preferred it being a bit easier to hold on to until I finished 😃 The onion rings were just bad: too dry!
I will taste the other things on the menu and update this review but I would add that my friends enjoyed their shiro and chicken teriyaki.
I went there for the second time for drinks, and then ended up having some desert and mains (wrong order, but it was that kind of a day). The tiramisu and the chocolate cake (on flames) were rich and tasty.
We later ordered the tandoori chicken. It was served cold, seemingly because the waiter took his time to bring it to the table, so we had to get it warmed up again. That was the lowlight of what was otherwise good service. Bizarrely the manager offered to get us some dessert for free - as we already had our desserts, we said he removes one of the cakes we had instead. That was not done - we paid full price for everything, including service charge! Not great!
You should...
