The Old Mill of Vernon — Attraction in Les Andelys

Visited Vernon town including the Old Mill which is very pretty. Viscount of Vernon authorised wheat windmills to be built upon 4 pillars of the bridge, above river on 5th August 1654, with à hanging stone/ wheel, using flow of river to run them. In 18th century, 6 wheat windmills were in use until October 1849, when a downstream dam built in Notre Dame de l'Isle, prevented mills to continue running, also causing unemployment. The half timbered building dating to 17th century, was regularly rebuilt due to flooding. The last remaining mill, initially brought by an American & abandoned by 1930, left to literally fall apart was thankfully restored & reclaimed in 1980 by Vernon town. Pillars supporting old bridge still remain & restored mill is well worth a visit. With so much more to see including nearby wildlife, castle & beautiful walks, highly recommend, very picturesque. While biking to Giverny, we stopped just over the bridge and had a delightful picnic lunch, just my group, one goose, and two rather insistent ducks. The bossier of the two ducks was not the least bit leary of humans and was very keen on asking for handouts. Of course, we gave in. The goose was less insistent (of which I am glad - he was pretty intimidating). But this is supposed to be about the old mill. It is lovely and looks as though it originally sat next to an old bridge; pilings can be seen a ways into the river. The mill is built in what I would (probably incorrectly) call the English style of exposed beems and plaster (I'm not an architect or builder). Very classic. It stands just dozen the way from a stone tower which might have guarded the river and bridge at one time. If you are hiking or biking to Giverny, stop by this park and see these striking buildings. Este fix genul de masina cu care sa te duci in concediu in Bulgaria. Odata ajuns acolo, ai un avantaj maxim: nu ti.o va fura nimeni nici daca o lasi cu usile descuiate si geamurile lasate. Deci o grija in minus. Iar daca o lasi intr.o parcare obscura la bloc, nici aurolacii nu vor sa doarma in ea, au si ei totusi mandria lor.
