A well curated collection of Italian, French, Dutch and German painters. The French collection has some wonderful portraits that let you see into the soul of the subject Also, there is a lovely painting of Alexander the Great meeting the very eccentric Greek philosopher Diogenes while he lived in a barrel with his clock, his stick and his bread bag. Additionally, there is a particularly engimatic painting of Ulysseus' "encounter" with a sword waving Circe on the island of Aiaia. Step outside the old town and you will find this little gem. Perhaps it is overshadowed by the Museum Romanite and that's why it was so quiet. However, the fact that it is not busy with tourists adds to its appeal. The entrance to the building is gorgeous, decorated with beautiful sculptures. The interior with its grand staircase does not disappoint either. The exhibition includes mosaics, sculptures and paintings from different artists and periods. Although half of the museum was closed due to refurbishment at the time, we absolutely loved this museum and it's females in art exhibition especially. The lady on reception was really kind and gave us some recommendations and gave us a discounted ticket due to the fact most of the museum was closed which we really appreciated.
