Exceptionally stunning Basilica, one of only two Basilicas in Nantes. I was struck by its magnificent architecture of Neo Gothic architecture. Inside is even more breathtaking and hypnotic with the impressive nave, the wide aisles on the side, the grand organ gallery and the unbelievably stupendous high altar! This was built between 1844 and 1869. This was heavily damaged during Allied bombing of 1943 but a massive reconstruction took place between 1953-1974 with the rebuilt of the grand organ which was heavily damaged. There's so much to appreciate in this Basilica, not just it's history but it's various chapels dedicated to various important figures, both religious, royalties and civilians. A place of worship for all ages and a living monument of this beautiful city of Nantes in the Pays de la Loire...

This church is an architectural gem and a must-visit for anyone interested in Gothic religious architecture. The exterior columns of the spires seem to float, creating a stunning visual effect.

Inside, the church is very quiet and well-maintained, providing a peaceful atmosphere for reflection. There are plenty of seats throughout, making it easy to sit and take in the beauty. Visitors can also light candles, adding to the serene and contemplative environment.

Peter I of Brittany commissioned the build of the church in the 12th century. It was extended and renovated throughout the ages. It's biggest feature is a 20 meter high stained glass window commissioned by the Bishop Pierre of Chaffault in 1478. Only in 1882, it became a Basilica by Pope Leo XIII. The bell tower contains a set of five swinging bells, cast in 1882 by Adhémar Astier. The largest bell is called: "The voice of God in its strength" and weighs 7,270 kg
