La Taverne Royale — Restaurant in Nantes

Myself and my wife stopped off in Nantes on our way to Rennes and Le Taverne was recommend to us by a shop owner. Once we were greeted and brought to our seats this is where I and my wife found the service and food below par. We were given the menus, the staff member went off, normally popping back to ask about the order, they had their phone out and could not see us looking over trying to get attention, having to ask another staff member to get a waiter. We then got another waiter who was nice, took our order and did come back with the food and drinks. The burgers we got on the menu were around €18 and I was expecting something nice for that price. The bun was over toasted and the cheddar cheese was melted, but a cheap cheese with a strange taste, the fries were ok but I was not happy. Since we are not native French speakers and only travelling through I didn't want to call the manager over (not that I could see many staff at the time), so we are a bit of it and left the rest, the bill totalled €47.50 which for two burgers and three cokes was pricey. I feel good service is the big factor in a restaurant and I was not impressed that day at all, it wasn't that busy outside, and inside there where 5 tables occupied. I would not visit this place again, it's a shame as the location...

Lovley location. The sqaure is so picturesque. I was asked to move tables because I was alone and sat at a table for 4. However moved to the table next to me also catering for 4 although not set yet.... hummmmmm. . Waiter that finally served me(Didier) was warm, Friendly, professional and very helpful. Well done him. I understand his raised eyebrow when i ordered 50cl wine. And dined alone. Lol lol. Food was good. Well oiled machine everyone knows there role and it works. Image included show highlighted stand out staff, my sever would have been given a 5☆had it not been for the move table incident. Which he wasnt connected to at all. that's what the deduction...

I really appreciated the delicious coffee, the orange juice and the waffles served in this place.. Especially that they have a wonderfully beautiful view next to the fountain.. What I don't like is that there are some costumers that smoke and may disturb the others.. Any way, I recommend the place for tourists and for those who search a nice place where they can enjoy the company of a friend.. N.B: the place is not quiet, as there are lot of people.. Don't miss the chance to see the ship placed on the monument of the fountain, I don't know how they did but it's brilliant...
