It is hard to rate an old fort. What is the rating based on? Everyone goes for different reasons. There is history, and the information displayed here is very minimal and the signs are faded. The upkeep, this is really sad here. There is a lot of trash, grass that is overgrown, and only one park bench. There are lights that no longer work and no trashcan in the parking lot. There just may not be enough funds for upkeep. The quality here lies in the location, which is easy to see because it is high on a hill, but hard to find how to get to it. I didn't see any signs off of main roads. The views from the stairs on the way up and from the top are really beautiful. It is peaceful and quiet up there, and approaching sunset, the lighting is perfect. There are a lot of rocks to sit on or fort ledges, and some people climb up to the high point where the flag is. It is...

History can be fascinating. What is left of the Fort is quite impressive, especially after surving hurricane Irma. It is quite a climb up the stairs to get to the top of the mountain where the fort is located so I would not recommend this for people with walking disabilities or wheelchairs. There was also a lack of information. Aside from a few signs there is nothing explaining anything about the history of the Fort. Parking is free and there are a few spots. I also need to find out more about the large cross located at the parking lot. If you ask me, it's a must see when you visit...

Originally a fishing village on a swamp for which it was named, Marigot was made capital during the reign of King Louis XVI of France, who built Fort St. Louis on a hill near Marigot Bay. Today, that building is the most important in Marigot.

Marigot is typical of Caribbean towns, with gingerbread houses and sidewalk bistros. Market days are every Wednesday and Saturday morning. The crew of the 1997 motion picture Speed 2 shot the final scene here where the Seabourn Legend hits the island.

The St. Martin of Tours' Church on rue du Fort Louis was...
