La Terrasse was disappointing. We heard this was the #2 spot in all of Saint Martin so booked a dinner there for New Year’s Eve. We weren’t informed at time of booking that there would be a fixed menu and no à la carte menu. Thé fixed menu had decent options with a choice of duck confit or monkfish for the mains.
Typically duck confit is served with the leg of the bird. This dish came out with a pulled/braised duck inside of mash. A bit odd but tasty. The monkfish was accompanied by risotto both which were flavourful. Appetizer was wahoo tayaki. Presentation was excellent and artistic.
Service is where this restaurant scores a 1. The restaurant was surprisingly not busy given it was New Year’s Eve. Perhaps maybe five tables were occupied. Nevertheless the service was lacking. Our appetizers and amuse bouche arrived before our drinks did and we had to remind the server we had ordered wine. We did not receive bread for the table and the servers had to be reminded of that as well. There were no napkins at the table so we had to flag the servers down again. We had asked for sauce to be put on the side of the dish but that was also not done. Zero quality checks throughout the evening with no one to top up water or drinks. We had to wave our server down for second order of drinks. We needed salt and gave up waiting for the server and walked over to another table to grab it ourselves. We also had to go up to the bar to pay because they forgot about our table.
For a fine dining restaurant that charges 180€ per head, they should be meeting basic needs and some level of customer service...
Read moreThis restaurant is by far the best spot on either side of the island! During our stay, we dined here three times, no where else compared and we kept dreaming about all the dishes we had and longing for those we hadn’t tried yet. Ben and Dylan are incredible, every suggestion they made elevated our experience and their wine recommendations made the food sing even more beautifully. With a spectacular view and the most amazing, rotating selection of dishes, this is by far the most memorable part of our vacation. The restaurant is inside the West Indies mall in the back, second floor…so unassuming from the outside, you would never know that you’re about to be whisked away onto a dreamy tucked away, rooftop dining experience surrounded by gorgeous architecture and the most romantic atmosphere. We haven’t stopped talking about the food and wine since we returned home. The scallops were so delicate and prepared perfectly on a bed of gorgeous risotto. Every dish, a brand new experience for the senses, and I highly suggest asking Dylan and Ben for their recommendations, they will not steer you wrong and they will give you an experience to remember. Every night we had a new cocktail, wine, appetizer and main course as well as a dessert the last night. This restaurant is by far one of the most magical, beautiful places I have dined at with the most incredible and fresh dishes. I will never forget it. Thank you so so so much La Terrasse! You are...
Read moreNot sure why so many rave reviews of this restaurant. Food was abysmal. Tasted like it was previously frozen. Nothing tasted fresh. The vegetables were served cold as well. The steak was okay but the truffle frites were from frozen, not fresh potatoes.
Cocktails came after our dinner was served. Margaritas did not not have any orange liqueur (Triple sec, Cointreau, etc) and there was lemon juice (not lime juice) causing my lips to pucker as it was so sour.
And some odd entertainment - the dancing and most of the music seemed more fitting for a Hawaiian luau, not a Caribbean setting.
I cannot recommend this restaurant.
Interesting that the response I received from the owner after this review made no mention of the poor food quality. Seems more concerned that celebrities were there. Big deal. I could care less if celebrities eat there.
I ate the night before at L’Astrolabe in Orient Bay and the food was fantastic. The staff were also outstanding - knowledgeable and personal. And guess what, no celebrities.
I would have accepted maybe it was an off night for La Terrasse and an apology for what my party of eight all thought was lousy food and service, but the owner’s response...
