I found the tourist information a little confusing. If you just want to go on the submarine dont buy your ticket at the Tourist Centre unless you are then prepared for a 15min walk exposed to the elements all the way around the harbour as it is in a different building. It is easier to drive around the harbour and park in the free car park right outside the submarine building entrance. For 12 Euros you get to walk from end to end in the submarine whilst listening to the free audio guides available in French or English (and maybe other languages I dont know). Interesting visit, and obviously a little cramped - and can be even more so if you happen to pick a busy time with other people. I was in a group of about 12 which was just ok. Alternatively you can buy your ticket at the tourist centre to all 4 exhibitions spread around the harbour and just show your entry ticket at each one. I just visited the submarine - and I also did the free climb up the steps by the supermarket and over the bridge/road to the viewing point overlooking the submarine base. Good view of the base, lots of concrete, the surrounding area and southwards towards the St...

Returned later with tickets purchased online and got in right on time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Submarine was in great condition (and afloat! How cool!) and the audio guide was informative and engaging. Nice touches like audio from hidden speakers, and uniforms, and cutlery laid out.
If you are claustrophobic, I would skip this. Especially when it’s busy. The tight nature of the ship means waiting in line, sometimes squished in with other visitors, and while not hot, the submarine is still a bit humid and still smells of grease and diesel. For submarine enthusiasts this simply means you get the real immersive experience! For others, this can make you feel...
Read moreAlmost a must see in the area. Entry is on the far side of the fortified lock, though you can see a glimpse of the submarine as you pass through the lock.
We had bought the ticket which allows you entry into the four museums in the area of the German submarine base.
You have an audio guide which is in several languages. This describes the various sections of the submarine. The submarine floats in the old fortified lock. You enter at the rear of the submarine and work your way through it. In some places it is cramped, and it is difficult letting people pass or to pass others. Loved the conning tower, well worth...
